I’m trying to figure out the max towing capacity of my truck which is a 19 Bighorn 1500 4x4 with a 5.7L hemi, no etorque, and a 3.21 gear ratio. I see conflicting numbers that range from 6800 to 8200, just trying to figure out what is right.

Remember, the max towing number...it is with only 300lbs and the hitch in the truck.

Using your payload number on the door jamb to find your base weight.

GVWR minus payload equals base weight

Your GVWR will be 7100 and your GCWR will be 13900. That is what your combination can weigh. Your truck, passengers, trailer and cargo.

Lets say your door jamb says your payload is 1600

7100 minus 1600 equals 5500.

So you then take 5500 from 13900

You can have 8400 lbs of cargo passenger and trailer.

RAM gives 470 lb allowance...so so 7930 for trailer...but this also includes tongue weight @ 10%

So 7137 would be max trailer weight.

But, unfortunately most people weigh more than the allotted allowance or carry more cargo and travel trailers have about 14% tongue weight

Hope this makes sense. If not ask specific questions. We have done these calculations so many times. Lots of info here.

Go here and configure your truck and it will tell you your towing capacity.

You can not use just the configuration. You have to use the look up my vehicle tab at the bottom and enter your VIN.

Otherwise you are getting the generic number...which is for a tradesman trim.

Thanks everyone the site says 1787 for payload and 8537 for max tow. I understand why that may be lower based on gear and passenger weight. Bottom line, my truck could tow a modest travel camper.

Also If you register your truck at the Ram Owners site, it tells you your towing capacity.

here's what I do...take whatever the chart says is your max tow, and never tow more than 75% of that number, and you will be a happy camper...
