Does anyone have any recommendations for a truck tent that assembles over the bed of the truck? I will be going on a US national parks road trip and tow campers are too expensive for my budget right now. Bonus if you've come across a rear seat air mattress that fits in a crew cab. Thanks!

I have a Napier Sportz truck tent. It’s awesome, I love it. I even have the air mattress for the bed that has cut outs for the wheel wells.

Do you have the part numbers for this setup? I've been thinking about getting something similar for camping trips this summer.

Sure thing, see below. I’ve had the mattress and tent for 5 years and they are in great shape. Air mattress is still holding strong.
I would also recommend getting the soft strap protectors, so the canvas straps aren’t rubbing against the paint.

Napier Sportz Truck Tent 57 Series: 57890
AirBedz Lite Truck Bed Air Mattress: PPI-PV202C (has to be used with the tailgate down)
Wheel well inserts: PPI-PVAC5
Napier Sportz Soft Strap Protectors: 44444

FYI, I would only get the wheel well inserts if u plan on ever using the air mattress when it’s not in the bed of your truck.

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for! Are there any benefits you've noticed with this setup as opposed to a standard tent, other than the obvious of more campsite space (i.e. warmer, faster and easier setup, etc)?

Kodiak canvas makes a great looking truck tent. Their regular tents are popular with those camping in the elements.

I've had a rightline truck tent for years and love it. The main difference with rightline is it doesnt have a liner for the bed area, it just pops up over the bed. I like it that way, but some prefer the liner.

I second the recommendation for the airbedz. Makes for a great bed setup with more room than the cab. I've used mine extensively and it holds up well.

The main advantage of this over a traditional tent setup is it's off the ground. No worry about finding a clear floor area or moving rocks/sticks. I also find it stays more dry.

I found this roll up foam mattress that fits almost perfectly in the rear of a crew cab if you're in a pinch. No experience actually sleeping on it yet, but I will keep everyone posted.

Kodiak Canvas n ram.png

Here is my Kodiak Canvas Truck Tent on Dodge Ram. It can be a bit difficult to set up if you are solo, but still after 40 I managed to set it up correctly and I think it looks nice.
Tent quality seems perfect. Design is pretty good. I only wish the height was like 6 inches taller- and it seems that the canvas is big enough, but the bows aren't. I'm not quite 6 feet tall, the tent is not.
I would like the front most wall sat a more vertical to be much closer to the rear window. I followed the manual that came with the tem setting the rails at 9" from the end of the bed- this is gonna work... which also means it can't be adjusted to allow the front wall to sit closer to the back of the cab.
https://wildproofgear.com/best-canvas-tents/ - Of course there more interessting choice, but no matter how pricey and difficult it was to set up, I am glad I've chosen this one over other canvas truck tent on the market.

Hey,
I have Terratrotter truck, I specially bought it for travelling, I much likes travelling, last month when I planned for winter trip, so I bought foam mattress for my truck through Titan Mattress coupons, but I don't know about that, it can be adjusted in your truck also or not, my truck is little big, and I have also tuck tent, but I cancelled my plan because of COVID-19 second wave.

Nelly
I really like the kodiak set up but i have a question
I watched a couple of videos on it and I know it fits over the bed and does not come with a floor but have you had any problems with bugs of critters getting in ? Also if you did the extended write up on Amazon ...nice job (y)
i checked the price on amazon today $999 from another buying source .... so i checked Cabela's around $350 much better price .. i should have checked there first anyways ;)
Definately looking to get this tent as it looks very well made , thanks for the info on it

My Walmart 3 person tent fits perfectly in the bed with the tailgate down, or if I’m in the desert and there’s no mosquitos I don’t even use a tent. My Lightspeed 2 person air mattress fits 100% perfectly between the wheel wells and with the tailgate shut (6’4 bed) - it also fits inside the tent too. My plan is to make a mosquito net that connects from the roof of the truck to poles coming out of the bed rail pockets so that it robs absolutely no room, blocks bugs, and is completely open air so I can see the stars and everything around me.
