Looking at getting the OEM style trailer brake controller for a 21 1500. Couple thing here has anyone bought the kit off of American Trucks or off of BAM Whole sale? I've Read through a few other threads and have watched a few videos and they said something about a bypass or just having the Dealership do it.
If I were to buy the one off of BAM whole sale it doesn't come with the Bypass.
I have a Snap On code reader/Scanner I should be able to use it to enable the software for the controller correct?
I haven't see anyone use a Snap on scanner to do this. When I used the scanner last I saw something for the trailer brake but didn't click on it. Didn't know If I was able to enable this function.

BAM Whole sale

Thanks,
Zach

I bought my Brake parts (real factory vs imitation), worth the extra in the long run (IMHO) - both sites appear to be selling the factory parts.
I also bought previously, a ByPass cable - reusable
I also have a good code scanner previously - reusable
I also bought a copy of AlphaOBD - a software program that allows you to program most settings as the deal will/would - reusable.
The package from infotainment is good all all-inclusive, but the programmer, I think, is limited to one function.

So if you just want to add the trailer brake, good to go, I choose the method above as I have the tools/equipment to change/add things in the future without further expense. So the choice is yours to make. I considered the items as tools(investments). Your wallet may say otherwise.

I installed a brake controller in my 2019. I had procrastinated for quite awhile as I didn't want to have to get down on the floor and contort myself to install the module. (I'm 74 with bad knees)
I finally did it a couple of months ago, it was actually quite easy even with my big hands and fat fingers.
Here is a thread on installations and links to a couple of videos on doing it.

I ended up popping the side panel off the lower dash to install the bypass wires (2) in the can bus.
I have the can bus cable and piggy back unit that I got the forum maker here that makes them
My Laramie had all the lower connections filled, but the upper buss had spare openings.

Looking in from the top with the side access panel off.

looking up from the floor, no way was I going to be able to connect into the can bus from there
