See (really LISTEN) to the link to a quick video/audio I made yesterday. I’ve read quite a bit about the Hemi tick here and I’m wondering if this is it?
I own a 2024 Limited E-tourque. Only have 3500 miles over almost 6 months. Have been very happy with this truck so far. Just yesterday I happened to notice this noise after starting it.
I’ve changed the oil already a little over 1000 miles and have another schedule 2 weeks from now. Which is a week or so before I’m scheduled to drive to Virginia and back with it.
It still seems to run great. I’ll stop by my dealer tomorrow (although I doubt they would ever come out to listen to it without an appointment as they are a very busy dealership).
From what I’ve read here about a “tick”, the main culprits are exhaust and then lifters or cam/both.
Interested in any experiences after listening to this sound.
Thanks

It says your video is private.

Could be the exhaust/manifolds. You should still have warranty, take it in asap

Sorry, just switched to public. Yeah, I agree and will swing by without even an appt tomorrow, at the very least to get one.

Manifold leaks. You are covered under the 8 year/80,000 mile federal emissions warranty. Take it in and have them replaced and tell them to check your Etorq system as well. Had all that replaced.

Geesssh. I hope not. If they can’t replace before my Virginia trip later this month, what are the chances I can still drive it or will this get much worse or cause other issues?

It may get worse, but it definitely won’t get any better. Does it go away after the engine warms up?

Haven’t had a chance to really run it since yesterday. Either later today or for sure tomorrow I’ll be able to get a better feel for the sound.

I drove mine for few weeks before replacing the manifold, it quieted down after warming up for couple minutes. YMMV.

if the leak is between the manifold and the head (say from a broken bolt), it can actually wear the mounting down with long term use. This could cause the new manifolds leak too. If it’s just a crack that goes away after warmup, I’d say it’ll be ok

I did have that concern due to having a busted stud, turned out to be a none issue.

I had both of mine done few months ago due to broken studs and cracked. so far its nice and quiet and the work is warrantied through ram for 2 years im not usre if thats dealer specific but its on my paper work and the service advisor told me as well.

Dealership looked at it his morning. Said it’s not an issue or a problem, but normal sound of the Hemi during break in. 🙄. I hope they are correct. All I can do is continue to drive and listen to see if the sound get louder/worse.

From listening to your video, it sounds like a normal Hemi to me (I've had 5 over the years). Maybe a broken exhaust manifold bolt, but if the noise is the same after it's been running 5-10 minutes it's likely not that.

Relax, run it, and enjoy your truck!

I'm on my 4th Hemi Ram and none of them tick like that. Sounds like an exhaust leak. The lifter tick is not as consistent as what's on the video.

The paperwork says “could not duplicate my concern, and found no exhaust leak. No DTC’s, no oil leaks and oil pressure is normal”

It's not uncommon for a dealer to fail to isolate the cause of a problem and claim it's normal.

However, it's not normal for any Ram I have owned.

Just took the video below from about the same location under the truck.

Yeah, there is another dealer 30-40 miles away. I’m thinking about the possibility of calling them tomorrow but upfront that I’ve already been to my local dealer and telling them what I want to verify and see if they will look or push me away. It’s quite clannish up here in Vermont between dealers.

If you wanted to you can check to see if you have a broken stud bolt by yourself. Make sure the truck is off course cold and sitting for a while. What ever side you hear it loudest on (or both). Reach in through the wheel well and pull on the the manifold shield and see if there is any give. This is how I was able to verify what side I had studs broken on and how many.
