Tailgate hitting license plate?

figured this will get more views / responses - a bunch of us have put the VLEDs LED light on our license plate for additional backup lighting. However, our tailgates are hitting the light. It would barely clear the license plate if that's all that was there. Any ideas how we can limit the travel of the tailgate? It's just when it's fully down is when it makes contact.

move the limit cable up to the lock pin - this will cause the tailgate to not drop the full 90 degrees and have the tailgate tilted slightly up (although not sure you can close the tailgate in this configuration). Or have a custom made shorter cable, the cable is what limits the open angle.

I flipped the VLEDS light to the bottom, per VLEDS customer support advice. Should be good to go now.

I was about to post a new thread on this but looks like some people know already!

Not only will the LPR lights hit the tailgate, even a 'tall' license plate frame will hit your tailgate.. in my case, this (super awesome) diamond plate frame left some light scratches in the clear, amazingly didn't break the clear, and it's just the tips of the raised print of the plate...

I'm gonna post these here and on the VLEDs thread- I just solved the issue, at least for the VLEDs light. Took a thin piece of foam gasket that I had lying around from my tonneau cover and cut a piece that was 11" long by 0.25" wide. Wiped the VLEDs light real good with an alcohol wipe on top and stuck the strip on it. Worked perfectly! Now the tailgate rests on the gasket instead of the plastic on the light. I'm 99% sure this will at least solve any concerns of damaging the paint on the tailgate. The gasket isn't noticeable unless you get right up to it and look at it. Standing back at any type of distance it just blends in.

The stock drop in bed liner also does this to the inner tailgate. Which I found out too late to do anything about it.

You think If i put that same foam gasket along the edge of the liner it would fix that issue ? I've got a whole thing of it.

Yes, it will definitely help bot cause the clear coat to start peeling off. I'm not sure how I am going to fix that since the clear coat chipped off. If you can get a bit wider and flatter gasket it will most definitely fix it. I rarely use my tailgate so that is friction of just daily driving.
