Have a 2019 Limited 4x4 with 3.92 gearing, was going to tow a camper out west but things have change. Do highway miles just the wife and I so would like the 3.21 gear for mileage. Only get 15-16 flat driving 72-3 mph At just over 2000 rpm. Guy I know has a 2 wheel drive 1500 with 3.21 says he get 21+ mpg at 75 mph. Does this sound about right?

Changing gears is not cheap front drive unit is plug and play you an not change the gearing, 1500 or so for just the front gearbox. Might be cheaper to trade truck.

Not sure it’s that much of a difference. I would swap my 3.21’s with someone though

you might hit high to mid 19’s maybe 20 MPG’s @ your 72-73MPH with a 3.21, depending on load. I believe the 4x4 adds ~200# over a 4x2, so MPG’s could be slightly lower.

I run 45-50 miles every few weeks, one way, from Pensacola to Mobile, alone, no load, and average 18-18.7 cruising @73 mph. I have not broken out my altimeter app to see the exact elevation change, it is a slight uphill run. My truck is a 4x2 , 3.21 LSD.

returning to Pensacola from Mobile I can get 19-21MPG running the same cruising speed. Rural/City driving running 89 i get 17-17.7 mpg.

The guy you know may in fact attain the fuel mileage he tells you, I would say it is possible, not maintainable. His driving habits and load will be much different than yours, with your wife, and truck loaded for vacation.

From the research I've done the difference between 3.21 vs 3.92 gears is 1.5 mpg

Dealership quoted me $4700 to swap gears in the rear end. Said if done elsewhere it would void the warranty. Then you have the front to worry about.

Cheaper to trade IMHO. Not yo mention you would have to drive a lot of miles to make up that cost in fuel savings.

Selling a truck due to a couple or 3 mpg’s is kinda “penny wise pound foolish”. If you don't like it for other reasons, want something more tailored to your lifestyle then sure.

Course if you want to support the UAW and factories now in this horrific (?) economy then sure. Its all your $ your choice.

I get 21-22 mpg on the highways (not mts) at 65-70. I don't drive 80 mph so can tell you what it will do at those speeds. See my signature, Ltd, 4x, 3.21’s...

It was hard, real hard to pick the right gears due to RAM dropping the 3.55’s in the hemi 🤔👎

Anyway, I'd say keep the truck if you like everything else about it.

I have 3.21 and on flat ground at 70-75 I’ll average 20-21.

A 4WD Limited is one of the heaviest trucks you can build, especially if you have ramboxs, sunroof and lots of options. Even if you trade the truck in, to get best fuel economy would be a base model with smaller, lighter wheels and tires. I wouldn't get rid of a truck for fuel economy since you can look and see that the MPG vary alot with identical models here on the forum. The best option would be a lighter wheel and tire combo until its time for a new truck

If I drove another hour or so on my last 3hr trip I could've got 23 per the dash calculator, it was at 22.7 before I stopped. Flat south Ga hwy running 70-80 and it took me by surprise. Now with my new 295s, it hasn't got above 18. Bit heartbreaking but it is what it is

I'm the same, the truck I bought wasn't the one I test drove so losing the 3.92's going to 3.21's is upsetting.

Anyone in the San Antonio area wanna trade hit me up! Also, looking for options besides these factory 22's!

Keep your 3.92. I have 3.21. The MPG is likely so small its not worth it. I wish i had 3.92s, but as i sat down to sign for a 3.92 truck a different dealer text me an offer 5k less but with 3.21s.

Something isn't right. I have a 19 Laramie, 5.7, 3.21 level 2 everything but Rambox, surround camera, air bags and etorque, and I get 22-24+ mpg long-trip highway miles (75 mph-85 in west Texas) . My '16 5.7 with 3.92 got 20+ in the same conditions.
