Have a 2019 with pano roof. When I close the sunroof it closes, then auto tilts open. Just started doing this the last few weeks. Have to hold down the close button for it to completely seal up and close. Any thoughts on what might be causing this?

This is for fourth gens, but worth a try

DISCUSSION: A small number of vehicles have been shipped to dealers with sunroof module software that loses position calibration under certain circumstances, preventing the sunroof from closing
7. Place the ignition switch in RUN position.
8. Close all of the doors.
9. Press and release the vent switch (sunroof should move to vent position).
10. Once the sunroof has stopped motion at the vent position, press and hold the vent switch for at least 5 seconds to recalibrate the sunroof position.
11. If the sunroof did not reach the full vent open position, press and hold the vent switch until the full-vent-open position is reached then release the vent switch, then press and hold the vent switch for at least 5 seconds to recalibrate the sunroof
position.
12. Cycle the sunroof from the full-vent-open position to the full-slide-open position and back to the full-vent-open position at least 7 complete times. The sunroof is now in customer mode with the obstacle detection thresholds updated.

Hey there,

If you're thinking you'd like to have this looked at by the dealer, let us know. We're available via direct message and can help with this process.

DUAL PANE SUNROOF CALIBRATIONS

NOTE:
Removing a motor from an old sunroof frame in which the glass is in an open position and transferring to a new frame with glass in closed position will require extra steps to be taken once the sunroof is re-installed into the roof (prior to headliner re-installed) before the motor can be re-calibrated. The motor will need to be detached from the sunroof frame ( with all harnesses attached), the sunroof close switch will need to be pressed and held until the motor stops operating, then re-install the motor, then proceed with calibration procedure.

Sunroof initialization & obstacle detection calibration is a process where the sunroof/sunshade motor(s) go through a learn process. This learning process is designed to calibrate the proper motor(s) stopping locations for Open, Close and Vent positions and calibrate the obstacle detection system.

NOTE:
For the following procedures verify that the battery is in good condition and do not perform procedures while vehicle battery is connected to battery charger.

There are two procedures for initialization & obstacle detection calibration. Select the appropriate procedure that fits the scenario.

Procedure 1: Initialization & Obstacle Detection Calibration

Procedure 1 must be performed when one of the following scenarios are true:

  • One or both motors have been replaced with new replacement service motors.
  • Sunroof will only respond to CLOSE switch (audible motor clicking noise with no motion, sunroof close motion or sunshade close motion when CLOSE switch pressed) & no response to sunroof open/vent & sunshade open/close switch actuation.

  1. Set the vehicle ignition to ACCESSORY (ACC) or start engine.
  2. Push and hold the sunroof glass CLOSE switch. Hold the switch through the following events: sunroof glass will cycle to the closed position (an audible click noise from motor will be heard when full close position achieved), power sunshade will then cycle to closed position (an audible click noise from motor will be heard when full close position achieved), then all motion will stop. Note: If glass and sunshade are already at full closed position at beginning of this procedure only a clicking noise from the sunroof motor followed a clicking noise from the sunshade motor will be heard.
  3. Release the sunroof CLOSE switch after all motion has stopped then push and hold it again within 5 seconds. The following sequence of sunroof operations will occur, do not release the switch until the operations are fully completed; the power sunshade will cycle to the full open position, sunroof glass will cycle to full open position and back to closed position, power sunshade will cycle to closed position.
  4. Release the switch once all operation stops; initialization and calibration of motors is complete. If the switch is released prior to full completion of the operations described the entire initialization and obstacle detection calibration must be repeated.

Procedure 2: Re-initialization & Obstacle Detection Calibration

Procedure 2 must be performed when one of the following scenarios are true:

  • Original existing motors have been removed and reinstalled on the sunroof module.
  • Sunshade Assy, Glass Assy, Wind Deflector or Seals have been replaced.
  • Sunroof glass or sunshade closed position setting incorrect.
  • Sunroof Assy, Glass Assys, Wind Deflector or Seals have been removed and reinstalled in vehicle.
  • Express operation “one touch” is not functioning.
  • Sunroof glass or power sunshade is auto-reversing during express close operation with no obstruction blocking sunroof.

  1. Set vehicle ignition to ON/Run.
  2. Ensure sunroof is in closed position.
  3. Open front driver side door.
  4. Switch vehicle ignition to OFF.
  5. Within 5 seconds set vehicle ignition back to ACCESSORY (ACC) or ON/Run.
  6. Within 10 seconds push and hold the sunroof glass CLOSE switch. After 10 seconds of holding the switch the re-calibration process will be begin. Continue to hold the switch through the following events: the glass will cycle slightly forward into a hard stop then stop (an audible click noise from motor will be heard), the power sunshade will then cycle to CLOSE position and stop (an audible click noise from motor will be heard when full close position achieved).
  7. Once the sunroof glass and power sunshade have stopped motion release the sunroof glass CLOSE switch then push and hold it again within 5 seconds. Continue to hold the switch through the following sequence of events, do not release the switch until all operations are fully completed; the power sunshade will cycle to the full open position, sunroof glass will cycle to open position and back to closed position, power sunshade will cycle to closed position.
  8. Release the CLOSE switch once all operation stops; re-calibration of motors is complete. If the switch is released prior to full completion of the operations described the entire re-calibration procedure must be repeated from Step 1.
  9. Confirm sunroof glass and sunshade express operation (press & release switch) is functional for open and close operations.

SUNROOF OR SUNSHADE OBSTACLE DETECTION OVERRIDE

There are two methods for overriding the obstacle detection of the sunroof or power sunshade. If sunroof or power sunshade is experiencing auto-reversals but no obstacle is present in roof opening standard procedure Dual Pane Calibrations SUNROOF INITIALIZATION AND OBSTACLE DETECTION CALIBRATION should be followed (08 - Electrical/8N - Power Systems/Power Top, Sunroof/MOTOR, Sunroof/Standard Procedure)

.

  • OVERRIDE - METHOD 1 - Press and hold the sunroof or sunshade CLOSE switch. Obstacle detection is not active during manual (press & hold switch) operation of the sunroof or power sunshade.
  • OVERRIDE - METHOD 2 - If the sunroof or power sunshade auto-reverses three consecutive times during express (one touch) close operation, the sunroof will enter override mode. All switch commands will be in manual mode (one-touch express operation will be disabled) while the obstacle detection feature is in override mode. Sunroof or power sunshade must be fully closed in manual mode (press & hold switch) or vehicle ignition cycled off and back on to exit override mode.

Hello.
I just found this post related to something that is happening to my truck. It its only 800 miles new.
There is a clunking / rattle noise when the sunroof is closed. It does not sound when in vent mode.
I have noticed that the two pieces of glass are not completely leveled when closed (looking from top).
There is no leak and this noise happens when flexing or on bumpy roads.

Any new thoughts on this topic?
