I went from Fayetteville to Raeford (26mi) which included about 20 min in stop and go getting out of Fayetteville last night then from Raeford to Raleigh and back (+/-200 miles with about 30 min of traffic jam action) today.

I live in Hoke County -Raeford in the Lindsay Road area and work at Special Operations Command on Bragg as a DA Civilian now (post army retirement) ......... I'm sure I'll be seeing you somewhere locally

That's crazy. Definitely worth it, but wonder why it uses so much fuel at idle...seems like it shouldn't need to.
I always wondered this. If the truck knows it is idling (remote start), why doesn't it switch to MDS when it gets warmed to a certain temp?

NIce color (y) I really want a rear spoiler but can't decide which one I want. Definitely going black like yours. I wish they had offered blacked out badges for the performance pack from the factory. Trying to keep it original and drive it as less as possible. Hoping this will be a classic in 20 years. V8 manuals are getting rare.

I don't think you guys realize how good the gas mileage really is on these trucks. They weigh over 5k LBS, have a 5.7L V8,
400 HP and still manage 15 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway. I drive a 2015 Mustang GT on the weekends. 3.73 gears and manual transmission. It weighs 3K LBS has a smaller V8 and has a little over 400 hp. I manage 14 MPG in the city if i'm easy on it, 12 MPG if I drive it the way I like. 22 MPG on the highway at 70, hardly 20 MPG if I go any faster. View attachment 7307

Yep. I’ve had 4 mustangs with the last couple being a 14 Track Pack GT and 16 premium GT both get the same gas mileage as you mentioned. Not a good comparison though.

I sold my 18 Charger 392 in for this Ram. It was 4500 lbs, 485 hp and got 19mpg city and 25-27 hwy.
I drove like an adult though. Different folks.
I always love mustangs but you have to wind them up for power. Hence worse gas mileage.

But I am averaging 17.5mpg in my eTorque 3.92 rear Laramie. Mostly city

That isn't the point. I have a 2017 RAM 1500 limited with 3.92 axle that gets an average of 18.6 MPG. Bought the 2019 RAM 1500 with 3.92 ratio and eTorq and it gets 15.4 after 1,300 miles. Same driving and way below advertised rates. Something is amiss.

You need to give your engine and transmission at least 5k miles to be fully broken in and you’ll get better and more consistent gas mileage

I just drove 800+ miles and averaged 16-20 mpg on the highway in the hills, rain and wind. If you keep the current mpg up you can see where your eating gas and change your driving style to match how the truck is made. I doubt all the trucks around me mashing the pedal to the floor to pass every car are getting good MPG. I agree with a previous post that around 60-65mph is the sweet spot for better MPG. Up to 75 and I dropped 1-2

Even though this thread has drifted off topic, I similarly wonder about these trucks and mpg. I traded in my 2013 F150 Crew cab 6.5ft box off road with 3.55 gears and 33” tires 5.0 V8. I averaged about 14mpg in town in the ford and 20mpg hwy at 75mph +. The ram so far is way behind and I’m very disappointed. Everyone brags about their ram gas mileage and mine sucks. Crew cab 6.4 box 3.21 gears and Hemi obviously. I’m at 3600 miles and I can only achieve about 13 city and 16ish hi way. Is it going to get better or is this what I have to get used to? I’m sure starting to miss the Ford when I go out of town on long trips.

I just drove my 2019 with eTorque Hemi and 3.21 gears to Baltimore and back (I live in Cary, NC). Only put around 750 miles on it the whole trip (including driving around the DC area). But I was averaging 20mpg on the highway and 15.2mpg in town. I regularly get 14mpg at home and have just over 3800 miles on the Ram now.

So, I am not really going to complain about the mileage. And I too was running 90 to 92mph most of the trip on the highway.

My other vehicle (a 2018 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with a 6.2L supercharged smallblock) only gets me around 13mpg on average. Although, the month before I got the RAM, I did take the Camaro to Charleston, SC and back. Got 22mpg on the highway. I even eclipsed triple digits a few times on I-95 and still got fantastic gas mileage.

Anyway, I am pleased with the mileage. Not up to dealer claims, but still better than my 2014 Silverado got me.

Here is a pick of my ZL1. The "other woman" in my life. Just ask my wife...

It should do a little better for you when you hit right around 4500 to 5500 miles on it..........Talking about HP I have the 2018 Scat Pack Charger with 485hp no Supercharger it runs likes a bat of hell with the 6.4 and we got 25 to 26 MPG coming back up I75 from Tenn to Ohio running 80- 85 MPH and triple digits here and there when road was open and safe!

I agree 100%. For god's sake it's a 5000+ lb V8 truck.

I have a 2019 1500 Limited with the 3.92 gears. 22,000+ miles on it.
So needless to say, I have passed the break in period, and easily majority of traffic highway.

I have been getting average of 15-16mpg.

I also did a trip cross-country with it, 3500 miles each direction.
Did not speed, had ACC on and set to the speed limit the whole trip.
Got 15MPG average (not based on trip computer, but doing basic math)

What grinds my gears, is the window sticker states 17City and 22HWY MPG.
Yet, i get at BEST (average) 17HWY and 8CTY.

The kicker?

I had a 18 ram 1500 with 3.92 gears loaner while my ram was in the service department (for several weeks)

The 18 i was getting 15-16CTY and 21HWY. (average)

What the hell?!?!?!

I have just had my Ram for about a month now. I am getting around 13-15 with a lot of city driving involved. I have owned several Rams in the past but not since 2014 and I only was getting about to 8-10 mpg on those Rams. Yes, I have a heavy foot so if I only get 12 mpg it will be an improvement for me. I had been sitting my highest gear to 8 so I could see what gear my Ram was in all the time. I had read somewhere on this forum that doing that prevents the ECO from kicking in so I didn't do that today The ECO was on at 45 mph on a level load for long distances. I was doing 66 mph on the Interstate and about 1900 RPM and the ECO was staying on for long distances. So does the using the highest gear usage prevent the ECO from turning on or maybe I just starting looking for it today. Specs of my Ram in my signature.

Am I the only one starting to see the trend that it's mostly etorque trucks not getting claimed MPG? Im wondering if in everyday driving where the etorque isn't helping, it actually adds extra drag. Just a theory because I have a regular hemi and get fantastic MPG.

I have a stock limited with 3.21's and my MPG screen is giving me 9mpg, I drive like there's an egg under the gas pedal, I don't goose it and slam on the brakes, I do a lot of coasting, and still get 9mpg

I have been checking mine when I fill up with gas and it has been pretty close to the MPG screen when I check mileage divided by gallons of gas added.
