Hey all, first post. I read all the threads. Decided I just want to try upgrade the stock 6 speakers.

I worked out I am good for the

dash left and right with
Infinity Reference REF-3032cfx

rear doors with
Infinity Reference REF-9633ix

what I cannot work out is why does crutchfield not want me to install the
Infinity Reference REF-9633ix in the front doors? I thought the stock fronts were also 6 x 9s?

if I can get these 6 speakers in, I am hoping it will be a big upgrade to the stock sound.

Kind of the same questions.

Aren't 6x9 better than 5.25's?

This is what crutchfield recommened for me:

audio purests will tell you round speakers such as the 5.25 should produce more uniform better sound. however - a 6 x 9 should be able to to displace more air, therefore have more bass. thats why i want a 6x9

The only 6x9 they offer is a Kicker but has 4 ohm rating. I was considering them for both doors but they said a 3 ohm speaker(s) would be better.

yah but the question specifically is why the kicker 6x9 fits but others do not in the front door. what is it about the front door that crutchfield doesnt recommend almost all 6x9s? the depth too shallow?

I am guessing like you and thinking the speaker is too deep/opening to shallow. But do not know for sure.

these might be even better

actually i dont think either of these will work, because the door panel will probably not go on after your raise the speakers outside of door panel area

i have the infinity 6x9’s and they fit just fine. So do plenty of other members.

If you've never dealt with Crutchfield, their tech support is quite good. I would be inclined to just call them. They generally know their stuff.
(I also might need to know this stuff at some point, but it's way down my list of priorities, so I haven't bothered, yet.)
Good luck.

Hey, I found those infinity speakers (previous models) on Amazon for about 1/2 the price as the latest on Crutchfield, so I was thinking about going that direction.

Mounting depth is > 3.25" for the front speakers, and there is room for up to a 3/4" front-mounted spacer without hitting the inside of the door panel. Plenty of room.

I thought the issue involved the window. Was told the window cannot go all the way down with most aftermarket
6x9 speakers in front doors.

Just got these kenwood 6x9 Installed in front. Sounds good just waiting for a sub box that doesn't take all the space under rear seat.

My numbers are based on the amount of space/clearance in front of the window with it rolled down. I have 8's in all my doors, there is plenty of room in there for pretty much any 6x9 you could imagine - especially if you add a front spacer/adapter. (y)

how bad was it to get 8" in the doors? any pics?

It was a lot easier than I was expecting - the panel material is a soft fiber plastic and easy to cut. There is a lot of room and front clearance, I used 1/2" plates with no problems. Worst part by far was threading new speaker wire through.
