In cleaning my steering wheel with a clean damp cloth (water only) it seems like there is a coating on the steering wheel that has somewhat come off in places. Has anyone experienced this? This is not rubbing hard at all. Does anyone know of a way to "refinish" the steering wheel?

Sure, but you probably won't like it...

I'd check with an upholstery shop and see if they have a solution, besides recovering it.

Should be using a leather cleaner/conditioner not just plain water.

From my experience a new wheel installed by the dealer is around 250 dollars. If the wheel is that bad I would just get a new one

I replaced the oem leather on my 2007 ram 2500 with a kit from Redline Goods when the color topcoat started wearing thin. What an amazing upgrade.

The quality impressed me so much that I bought a leather shift boot and e-brake handle cover for my wife’s mustang.

My current steeringwheel is starting to peel and I’ll likely go with one of their kits again.

Redline Goods

Another option would be to remove the wheel, scuff and prep the leather and then respray with SEM leather color Classic Coat™ | SEM Products
