Start/Stop feature

can you buy a 2023 Ram without the start/stop feature on the 5.7L Hemi? If not, do the 2022’s offer it? I’ve recently been burned by the ecotec engine in the Silverado and don’t want to drive anything that shuts the engine down.

I was just looking around for the same info. In 2023 you can't get a truck without it, but there's a button to turn it off (it starts enabled by default when you start your truck). There is a ~$100 module you can plug in inline to one of the harnesses that will remember the setting across restarts so if you set it to "off" it will remain off until you turn it back on again.

Also, I believe there are conditions that will prevent it from working like turning on your AC and tow mode.

In previous year models it was tied to the eTorque option. My 2019 Durango with no eTorque did not have start/stop

I own a 2021 RAM 1500 with the start/stop function and while I have not experienced any problems, you can TURN OFF the start/stop function by pressuring a button on the dashboard. FYI

It's still tied to eTorque. You just can't get anything, but eTorque in '23.

You can still find non etorque Hemi's in 2022 models and earlier. All 2023 1500's have etorque, and with that they also have stop/start. Models without etorque do not have stop/start.

I wouldn't worry too much about the auto stop/start or spending money to buy a module to always have it disabled. I am not a fan of it but it's literally a simple push to turn it off. You're reaching rght there for the shifter anyway.

I installed the autostop eliminator on my last truck and was very happy with it. Best $79 I spent on that truck OMHO. I only wish they made one for my Audi.

I used the range in my 2014 Silverado. It caused the transmission to shift totally different. Didn’t want to have to do that to a new truck. Scared it would mess up the transmission.

I thought I would hate auto start stop but honestly it is pretty well implemented and doesn’t bother me. I also get a bonus “pop” with a G/T wxhaust when taking my foot off the brake, which is kind of fun.
I bet with ANC and no response lag due to etorque it’s probably a non-issue. Mines on order so we’ll see but I suspect it’s much less of a problem than I think it will be.

On rental cars that have start/stop without etorque (not stelantis) it was annoying.

Agreed and all of my previous experiences have also been terrible. I don’t even really notice it on my 2023 Ram. With all that said, when I eventually get off-road I will definitely disable it. I can see it being detrimental to rock crawling up a steep grade.

My advice would be to try to buy a used one that does not have the eTorque Stop/Start system. I had a 2019 with the eTorque and generally liked it. They changed how it operates for the 2022 model and I now dislike it. My son bought his 2022 at the same time as I did and he dislikes it too. I probably won't stay with Ram for my next truck because of it.

Ram always reverts it back to on, even if you turn it off because Ram thinks it knows better then you do.

I got mine for $50.

I opted for this vs the tune so when I am waiting at gas stations for a pump I will let it auctally turn it off. The tune completely disables it and you can't just toggle it back on without reflashing parameters.
It's funny when you put your truck in park the engine turns on. So you if you stop behind a car at a pump, the truck turns off, if you put it into park because there is no brake hold the engine then turns back on, and if you want you can turn off the truck with the button. Very janky.

When I decide to get a Ram 1500, I specifically searched for non e-torq. 22's were out of my price point and finding one with 3.92's without ordering was down right impossible. I found a 21' with 11,300 miles that was dealer owned with the level 2 group and 26 gallon gas tank. I had start/stop in my Gladiator and hated it.
