Rusted Oil Pan

Reviving this one from the dead, Just had the pan on my 2020 5.7 Laramie changed. Every time I would change the oil i would be like... Man that pan is crazy rusty rusty LOL. The rest of the truck has almost no rust even for a 5 year old NY truck. Luckily I had a extended warranty and that covered it. Was $988 to change the pan, gasket, all pan bolts, Oil change plus labor. I'm tempted to do the por15 over the top while its new but then again in 5 more years the truck probably wont have any rocker panels here in the salt belt haha
Take care of the truck and you won't have any rust issues. Undercoating/rust protection is your friend as well as good car washes making sure to get fresh clean water in all the common problem areas

Oil pan is right down there where all the rocks and sandy water are and gives it a good amount of wear and tear. Pans are lighter material now, so a much bigger problem than older cars, although they also prone to pan rot over time.

There is no taking care of a truck in Upstate NY LOL, Here vehicles are just a expensive investment that no matter what you do they will rust. My truck was not undercoated (bought it used in 2022) but I do have a membership to a unlimited car was and go through it regularly during the winter to get all of the salt off

Drive through car washes don't get to the areas you need to get to in order to prevent rust on the body and frame. I live in the Midwest where we salt our roads in the winter, rust is a big issue here as well. But not if you take care of your vehicle. Weekly car washes in winter once weather warms up and rain washes the salt/brine off the roads, do a thorough hand wash getting the full undercarriage and inside the frame rails. I even go as far as removing the rear wheel well liners to get up in there and around wheel well arches. I open the doors and clean the door frames and bottom of the doors themselves. Remove the access panel for tailgate and spray the inside of the tailgate.
