I have a 2019 rebel, 16k miles with what I’m hearing a common roaring noise when Accelerating at low or high speeds. It’s intermittent and doesn’t do it every time I start truck. sounds like engine restriction. It’s coming from motor under the hood. Like an air damper issue on a supercharger. Any ideas? I’m not a mechanic so please advise.

Exhaust leak? Sorry, what do you mean when you said "sounds like engine restriction". I don't have any idea what engine restriction would sound like. Maybe try to get a recording. Assuming this is a new noise, have you taken it to the dealer to have them diagnose the noise? Any issues that are causing it would be covered under warranty.

Have you checked your air filter? I've had leaves and other things inside the filter box. I would check their first. Mine gives a nice little roar but that is because I have a cold air induction system.

Sounds like electric engine fan noise ;)
That was my thought too

Not very familiar with the diesel, but does it have an electric or mechanical cooling fan? My 2017 Hemi would roar every other time I started it due to the mechanical fan. It would settle down after a minute or so of driving

That occurred to me too, but he said it happens when he accelerates. Electric fans speed up and slow down based on coolant temp, not engine rpm's. Accelerating certainly increases coolant temp, but it's not instantaneous. Not saying you're wrong, just that it would be more likely if it was a clutch fan instead of electric.

I would also think he would have noticed that before now, but this appears to be something new. Truck has 16k miles on it, although he didn't say he's had the truck for all of those miles. For all we know he just bought it used. Either way, it's still under the factory warranty.

Yes—all of that is true. I answered that thinking that it was likely a HEMI and wouldn't have a clutch-driven fan. To @Scram1500 's question, do you know whether the diesel has an electric fan? And do we know what @dwd14329 is driving (powertrain)?

Hi @dwd14329, we certainly understand how this could be a concern. If you are not able to determine a solution based on suggestions from fellow forum members and you decide to address this with your Ram dealer, please be sure to follow up with us via private message. We would be more than willing to escalate your situation to a specialist who can work alongside you and your dealer while your truck is in service. Please let me know if you have any questions about this process, I am happy to help!

Hi,
I have a problem that may be similar to your example. I hear engine noise through the speakers mostly when down shifting. I finally figured out when this occurs, when ever I have luggage or stuff in the rear floor. My situation is the noise cancelling system. Unfortunately, I have learned to live with it. Anytime I have a family trip with bags I can expect the noise of engine amplified in the cab. I have brought it to the attention of dealership many time and they typically say the will update software.
good luck!

There are several solutions that will actually fix the problem rather than going to the dealership. You can get a bypass harness for about $10 to disable the ANC. If you want to fix it for free the wires to ANC mics can be cut or de-pinned and that will perform the same task as the bypass harness
