Rear diff issue after engine replacement

You guys should all watch the recent NOVA episode where they tried to pinpoint exactly how the Hindenburg caught on fire. It sounds much like this conversation, except everyone on camera actually knew what they were talking about. Cool stuff.

Turns out the spider gear was trashed. Sounds like it could totally be a coincidence as far as the timing.. I’m the second owner, maybe the first owner drove it hard, either way it’s covered under warranty. Thanks to everyone for the input

Is this a 4x4 truck?

It will be interesting to see what the noise is. Many years ago, I had a car that made a clunk noise every time I turned (left I think). It turned out to be the transmission mount had broke.
Many many years ago a family friend told me he bought a black caddy 4 door which had an annoying clunk when turning left or right, and occasionally when going on a rough road. After multiple stops at mechanics he finally isolated the noise as coming more from the drivers door.
A body shop took off the door panel and there was a coke bottle (glass) with a steel ball bearing and a note. The note said "finally found it you rich sob". This was in a 67' Sedan De Ville, circa about 1973.

Oh MW, that 300-6 Ford was nearly indestructible. I can easily see how it ran just fine, oil or no oil.

That’s
Wonder if it was offroad abused prior to you then, a good way to break spider gears is rocking a stuck truck back and forth
That’s exactly what the tech was saying. It’s running 35’s on a 3.21 gear ratio too which I’m thinking I should change. Thinking that’ll help with longevity amongst the other benefits long term. I’ll look into it when I get the truck back.

Carriers should be the same, so spiders would be the same, even if you regeared.
