I purchased a 2022 Ram 1500 Bighorn in June of 2025. The truck was an off-lease vehicle with only 30k miles. I've owned five Dodge/Ram vehicles over the years, including my most recent truck that I sold to buy the 1500, a Ram 2500 5.9l Cummins with 321k miles. I've always been very happy with the reliability of Ram trucks and hoped that my new truck would be just as well built.
Unfortunately, in November (after a very dry Summer and Fall) the rear window began leaking. When I bought the truck, I didn't realize that this was a recurring problem with late model Ram 1500 trucks or else I would have checked it before the bumper to bumper warranty expired. I took it to the dealer and was told that they've fixed many 1500s and there's a TSB for resealing the window that Stellatis came up with after losing too much money replacing rear windows. The quoted cost for performing the work was $426.
Since this is a known and common build defect, I didn't feel that I should pay for the fix. I called the Ram Cares phone number and spoke with an obviously non-native English speaking representative that eventually offered to cover 80% of the labor. I had the resealing TSB performed on 12/17/25 at an out-of- pocket cost of $157. Two days later we had some rain and the window was still leaking. I called the dealer and they said that the only option was to replace the window for $885.
I contacted RamCares by DM here on the forums on 12/19 when it leaked. Diamond replied and asked if I had spoken with the dealer. She indicated that, once I did, she'd connect me with a specialist. I replied back on 12/3/25 with the dealer cost for replacing the window. So far, no response. I also called the customer service number on 12/31/25 and spoke with another non-native English speaking rep that told me to get in touch with the dealer to have them file a goodwill repair claim. I did that and the dealer called today and told me that Stellatis/Ram agreed to cover 30% of the full dealer-marked up cost of replacement ($1066.84 vs. $885).
So, in other words, if i paid out- of-pocket to replace Ram's defect it would cost $885. If I accepted their gracious goodwill repair, it would cost $746.79. WTF!!?? So Stellatis/Ram is only willing to cover $138 for a defect that they know affects nearly every late model Ram 1500? They want me to pay $747 after I already paid $157 for the other TSB "fix" that they have to know isn't going to stop a leak from a cracked window frame!
BTW, I still haven't heard a peep from Diamond through DM. I will keep updating this post and let everybody know if I'm contacted and the final outcome. I'm not going to let RamCares use their usual tactic of taking issues off the forum and into DM. If I don't get satisfaction, EVERYBODY will know. Likewise, I'll also let everybody know if Stellatis/Ram steps up and corrects their defect.
