For comparison, in the US, total Silverado pickup sales hit 585,581 for the year and total F-Series pickup sales hit 909,330 for the year.

Assuming the Silverado 1500 also makes up 70.3% of Silverado sales, that would peg the Silverado 1500 at 411,663 sales for 2018. Assuming the F-150 makes up around 60% of F-Series sales, that would peg the F-150 at 545,598 sales for 2018.

Seems like they made a mistake by not converting SHAP sooner...

Combined in Canada and the US Ram sold 621,834 trucks in 2018. Unfortunately GM doesn't seem to break down their Canadian sales by model at all instead offering up these hilariously bad reports.

I have been told that Ram outsells the Silverado in Canada so I'm going to keep trying to track down a breakdown of Silverado sales for 2018 to get an idea of just how close they are in sales.

YoY truck sales were down 15%?? Uh-oh.

When GM releases their quarterly sales numbers this month, and they are equally bad, some big heads should roll.

If what I've heard is true, in Canada the GM trucks are in 3rd and 4th place respectively. 1st is the F150, but from what I've been told second is RAM.

Nice. Is that a new development, Jared?

I mean was Ram 3rd or 4th last year... jumping to 2nd this year due to the 5th Gen?

Ford still has the #1 spot by a mile, but 2018 was a record year for RamM, on the back of 2017 which was also a record year for Ram. Ram truck sales have been steadily climbing for about 10 years now. I'm writing something tomorrow going more in-depth with it. Here's how they did compared to competitors for U.S sales in 2018.

Getting VERY close to the Silverado, my guess is GM is getting nervous.

Ram truck sales are actually down 14% in Canada this year. Likely in part to the large price jump and high interest rates. I don't know whether Ram outsold the Silverado this year or not but almost exactly a year ago I wrote this article https://5thgenrams.com/ram-sets-canadian-sales-record-2017/ for 2017 sales and that year Ram trucks were the #2 best selling vehicle behind the Ford F-Series in Canada.

Looking forward to your new article.

Did you happen to notice what Ford did recently?

After releasing the new Explorer at this month's autoshow, Ford was supposed to work next on bringing the Bronco to market.

But... now the Bronco is pushed back in favor of working on the new F150 next. Hmm.

Yeah they flipped the F-Series and Bronco introductions around. They also announced that they are going to start reporting sales quarterly like GM does.

Ram virtually tied Chevy US sales in the 4th quarter (161,397 for Ram vs 161,178 for the Silverado) so the trend might continue in both countries this new year!

Very true. I originally thought Ram wouldn't be able to surpass Chevy for the second place spot until 2020 at the earliest. They are so close now I think Ram could pull off the upset next year.

I would imagine Silverado lineup sales will increase at least a bit in 2019 as the 4500/5500/6500 hit dealers, compared to the slight YoY decline in 2018, but yeah, I can see Ram taking the #2 spot in 2019.

You figure that even with the DT production hell that lasted for months, Ram still sold 36k more trucks in 2018 than in 2017. With production presumably on tap to run on all cylinders in 2019, I think Ram could definitely potentially gain another ~50k in sales to take the truck lineup sales crown.

I'd hazard a guess that the Ram 1500 has either already taken, or will take it in the next few months, the #2 1500 spot from the Silverado, but unless Ford and GM start splitting out their 1500/150 sales like Ram does, we'll never know for sure.

Here's what i think the numbers look like:
Ram 1500 (we know for sure) 377,286 out of 536,980 Ram p/u = 70.3%
Ford F150 (using seatbelt recall affecting 2015-Sept 2018) 1.6 million out of 3 million F-series calender year 2015-Sept 2018 = 53% so I'm guessing 55% (corresponds with a recent commenter on TFLtruck)
GM 1500 (using 2015 brake recall of 1.02 million vehicles, 44% of which were silverados, decreased as some where probably canada/mexico trucks) 400,000 out of 600,544 calender year 2015 sales = 66.7%

So, that gives us for 2018:
Ford F150 @ 55% = 500,000
GM 1500 @ 65% = 380,000
Ram 1500 @ 70% = 377,286

*Edited to correct

Here's what i think the numbers look like:
Ram 1500 (we know for sure) 337,286 out of 536,980 Ram p/u = 62.8%
Ford F150 (using seatbelt recall affecting 2015-Sept 2018) 1.6 million out of 3 million F-series calender year 2015-Sept 2018 = 53% so I'm guessing 55% (corresponds with a recent commenter on TFLtruck)

So, that gives us for 2018:
Ford F150 @ 55% = 500,000
GM 1500 @ 65% = 380,000
Ram 1500 @ 63% = 337,286

But IDK
One typo--Ram 1500 sales were 377,286, which gives 70.2%.

Good thinking using recall figures! I hadn't thought of that, but it's much more accurate than my sheer guesswork. If those 55%/65%/70% figures pan out, I wonder if or how those percentages will change for GM and Ram with the new HDs coming out.

Good catch on the correction - I'll update my post. So that is 70.3% for 2018 and about 65% for 2017 (using the 15% Ram 1500 increase and 500,723 2017 sales. Based off past recalls my guess had been ram close to 60/40 for 1500 vs HD historically.
