Question on GVWR

I am trying to see if I am within limits for towing a travel trailer or not. There is one decal on my door that says GVWR 7100 and then there is a second decal that says not to exceed 1604 with passengers and items. Is this 1604 added to the 7100 for total weight or is it included in the 7100? I weighed my truck on a scale with a full tank of gas and it weighed in at 6100lbs.

No it was not. It was at our county dump. So that really does not leave any room for a WDH and tongue weight.

If my total weights exceeded the 7100 by 500 pounds, do you think think that I would be ok towing a 7000 pound travel trailer with a pro pride hitch?

Those scales are notoriously in-accurate. They are only good for measuring the DIFFERENCE in weight of vehicles as they enter/exit. We had another member on here that took his well optioned truck to a quarry scale and swore he had 2200 payload according to that scale. They’re just not accurate.

I would recommend a certified CAT scale. The payload stickers have proven to be very accurate also, unless you have accessorized the vehicle heavily.

7100 minus 1604 equals a base weight of 5496.

Their scale is off. Get the CAT scale app and measure again

500lbs over GVWR depending on where the overage is....could very well put you over rear GAWR.

But I think once you go to a CAT scale you will see you are fine.

I see you also have a lift...which means you habe bigger tires. Their scale is probably very close now that I see more info

Given the bed cover, lift, etc. that @devildodge wrote about above, that 444 lb difference is probably about right.

So your remaining payload is roughly 1,160 lb. Still better than mine

I have a 4x4 Club Cab with a 1,807lb Payload Sticker on the door. I went to the scale with my Camper and when I weight my Truck only, with my wife, full tank of gas, firewood, tools, jack and blocks my weight came in at 6,300lbs. So. As weighed you have 1160 to GVWR and 2060 to max axle capacity.

1500 trucks are made to tow or haul...rarely both.

If you got to tow and haul a 2500 is needed...you start getitinginto into 5th wheels and hauling you need a 3500 dually
