Problem with rear outside door handles

ahhhh crap.... did you replace the cable? or anything else? Looks like replacing the cable is pretty easy compare to replacing the latch mechanism. I'll repost tomorrow morning ish.
I didn’t replace anything. Ill end up having the dealership do it under my warranty at some point. It doesn’t seem hard to replace after having it apart, but i wasnt able to dial in on the exact component that was failing…so either I replace all of the pieces or i run the risk of having to disassemble the door multiple times while troubleshooting. Which is what id rather have the dealership do so if anything else breaks its on them and not me.

Heres my thread from December. Just so you know your not alone in this all.

Man I wish I have seen your post sooner. Maybe it is the cable and the one in there right now has moisture in it. Just this time, it seems like the latch was binding. I wish I disconnected the cable on both ends first. So 30 bucks to replace the cable. Risk breaking tabs again for one last go.

I truly hope its a fix for ya! If nothing else it will give the rest of us a direction to go if we start back into trying to fix it ourselves.

Some update. I received the new cable, installed it and so far it’s been around 14 or so degrees. The door has not froze. I kept the old cable and left it outside. It look like it did shrink, and the cable at first pull was hard to pull. After that it did loosen up. But far so with the new cable all good. Probably because no water has enter in the door yet lol. another thing I have noticed is that my door handles on the edge the paint is chipping. Just like the other side I already replaced. So had to order a new handle and the side caps. It is always something.

Cable part number.
Genuine Mopar Outside Handle To Latch Cable Right 68307195AD, this is the latest part number.

Early last week the dealer replaced both rear door handles. They kept the truck overnight to make sure everything worked after a cold night. The dealer called me and said that both rear handles were frozen solid, despite having replaced a bunch of things during three service visits. So they called Chrysler support. They were told to take cable #7 from both doors (remember, the left one was replaced in February after it snapped and I waited 3 months for a replacement). They were directed to inject a specific grease into each cable.

They did this to the cables on Friday and gave me the truck back. This morning it's 6 degrees here, and guess what? Both door handles move easily, and there is no problem opening the doors! Chrysler told them that water can pool in the bottom of the "U" in the cable, freeze, and bind it up.
Hi I am going through the same issue. Do you happen to know the type of grease that was applied and does it still continue to be an effective solution?

To let you know that the cable is in a sleeve. You can’t just apply grease to it. Unless you have a small needle and inject grease that way or cut the cable sleeve off in certain sections to apply it. Basically like I said in my last post. It is easier to just replace the cable with a new one. After I replaced the cable, I haven’t had the problem come back. And it’s been -11 right now. But I did apply grease to the ends of the cable where the cable slides into the sleeve with waterproof grease. Slide the cable in and out. So far so good.
