Like evank33 mentioned, it’ll just work. Also, it’s been discovered that the circuit for the release button is already on the fob circuit board (and remote start also) for the HD Rams, so I’m guessing they are there on the DT fobs. You could buy some 4 pin buttons, and solder them in place. You won’t have the labeling on the fob overlay, but they will work when pressed. This will eliminate a dealer visit altogether if you have AlfaOBD to enable remote start (tailgate remote release will work no matter what).
Link to the button assortment that was used-
Any idea what type/size driver you need to remove inside fob screws. So small can't figure if it is hex, torx, pentalobe, etc... Lol... even tried zooming in with my cell phone camera. Curious to look at pc board button layout since my remote start bottom is centered and it's offset with fobs with power tailgate. I image pcb is different but figured I would kill a few minutes.

It would be great to find a way to program used keyfob, they are cheap on ebay. They say some locksmith can do this…

Resurrecting an old post only because I want to make sure I'm understanding everything. To get the remote open for the tailgate, it's only a matter of getting a new key fob and having it proggrammed? I have the dampeners, etc., but not remote open.

Exactly. I did it and have remote tailgate working.

I had a new key programmed today that has all 5 buttons (did the remote start mod and that works as intended, woohoo!), but the tailgate will not drop no matter what I try to do on the remote. Anyone have any ideas?

When you press the tailgate button 2x do you hear the actuator and it doesn’t drop, or is it completely dead?

Absolutely nothing. I thought right away that it was just my actuator not kicking it, but as I got closer to it, it just does nothing.

Thank you!
Sorry to belabor this topic but I already have the remote start function and fobs for my 2019 1500 DT. So if I look at the specs for the remote tailgate kit direct from Mopar (OEM kit) it lists 2 fobs (with the tailgate release button in addition to lock, unlock and remote start buttons) a wiring harness and an iSheet. I know I also have to get the dampening strut (sold separately) to ensure the tailgate won’t slam open. . My question(s) 1.) why does the OEM kit list a wiring harness when the comments here indicate all I need are the upgraded fobs (which then need to be programmed)? 2.) did the fob that was available on e-bay (link posted up thread) work to lock, unlock, remote start and remote tailgate release actually work when programmed by a locksmith or do I need to buy the upgraded fob for a directly from Mopar and get it programmed at a dealer? Thanks again for the replies and sorry if I am repeating questions that have already been answered.

I just bought the fob from eBay and programmed it myself. All of the original functions still work plus it added tailgate. The damper was already on my truck and no harness was needed.

Thank you so very much. THAT answers my question. I was confused because if you read the specs of the Mopar OEM kit, it says it comes with the two fobs and also says it comes with a wiring harness but everyone I talked to at Mopar had no idea what the “harness” was for. Going to get the fob and go for it as you did. I too have the damper so it should be pretty straight forward. One last question please. How did you program the key yourself. My good friend has a auto repair shop with an surely scanner he’s also subscribed to the FCM site for the scanner to be able to by pass the security “gateway” so I’m thinking I could just use his scanner to do the programming through the OBD port. Thoughts and advice please.

Sorry for the delay - I went to a locksmith and he had a tablet that was made for programming the new style fobs. Cost me $110
