Bob I have your same tires in 305/45/22 4x4 with 3.92 gears with etorque and imited slip and my mpg is at also pretty crappy 13.4 right now. My old laramie was a 4x4 with 3.92 gears (falken wilpeak tires) and averaged 16-17mpg. I dont get it! Must be the etorque is garbage... i dont know...Tires not stock 33x12.50R22
I had 305/40/22s on my '19 Limited and now on my '25 Limited Night and couldn't tell any difference in mpg.
Hi are your tires Mickey Thompson also? What year is your truck? I still am low miles maybe it will get a little better, my old Ram was 2 wheel drive 2005 5.7 and MPG was not great on that one either. I turn off the start-stop with the Tazer a lot and I don't think it helps with MPG. We took a road trip to Denver and out on the open road it got better mph. I just think a lot of it is that it is one heavy truck but I wouldn't get rid of all the creature features for anything ( LOL).Bob I have your same tires in 305/45/22 4x4 with 3.92 gears with etorque and imited slip and my mpg is at also pretty crappy 13.4 right now. I live on a farm so lots of stop and go and idling -- about 14. Haven't driving much on the highway, but what little I have driven, I get around 16.good to know! What average MPG do you get in the city/highway?
You do realize the EPA numbers are not done in Real world scenarios? Also, they will test one vehicle of the model with the engine/trans combo and apply that across the boardJust adding my two cents to this thread. I have a 2020 eTorque Limited, only modifications are a tonneau cover and D-load 275/60/20 K02's. I've only had the truck for a few weeks so I've never experienced the truck in the summer on summer gas, but on dead flat ground doing 110kph/7-mph, my truck gets 16mpg yet is rated for 21.5mpg(converted from CAD L/100km to MPG). Around town it gets 11.5mpg yet is rated for 16.5mpg. I traded in my previous truck for this, a 2014 Sport Crew cab with Ramboxes, Tonneau, 4" RC Lift, 325/60/20 tires on 10" wide rims, rear helper bags, etc. My Limited doesnt have ram boxes and the only real feature it has beyond my Sport that could weigh anything meaningful is the moon roof and eTorque system - but I figure the mods to my old one would put them at the same weight. For reference, my 2014 got the same MPG as my 2020 on the highway.
Anyways, I've never taken the EPA numbers seriously because I know manufacturers use their bone stock base models to achieve those numbers, but right now I'm pulling 25-30% under their ratings which I think is pretty drastic and unacceptable. I drive like I'm 90, probably rarely see 3k RPM, and on the highway keep it around 110kph/70mph.
This sounds like a common issue with these trucks - has anyone found a solution, taken recourse against FCA, etc? I'm tempting to bring it back in and say I should be at least within 10% of the ratings (and I'd be happy) but 30% around town seems excessive, especially with a stop-start system.
Thanks.
edit I have 3.21 gears
It is what it is. Every one of these trucks get diffferent fuel economy numbers. Some good, some not so much. You ae in about the middle of reality, so good luck with improving it. Yep! That’s why I said I never take those numbers seriously since every truck varies, and then went on to say that I don’t believe a 30% difference is reasonable. You do realize the EPA numbers are not done in Real world scenarios? I know it’s a truck and not a car, hence my post not complaining about me not getting car mpg. My point was that getting 30% below their rating seems to be too far out from a slight variation between trims, add-ons, etc.It is what it is. I see you just want someone to affirm your thoughts, and don't care about actual facts. Asking if you have any recourse with dealer/manufacturer just affirms this. Good luck with your truck.Yep! Does anyone have anything helpful to say on this? I’m not expecting car MPG, just trying to see how wide spread this issue is and if there is any recourse at the manufacturer/dealer for it.
No need to get emotional or argumentative, I'm just another Ram owner looking for useful replies/advice from other Ram owners. I said useful information. You dismissed it, then went on to complain further and asking if you had recourse with RAM or dealer on a used truck with aftermarket parts installed. Your fuel Mike is what it is. Winter blend fuel is hurting you, the taller tires on the truck are hurting you. If previous owner had it leveled, that's hurting you. Honesty from FCA. That's all. They lie about fuel economy on this trucks. It's well known that they do. Why are you so abrasive about factual information? What exactly are you looking for?
If you go back to my first post in this thread (#1667) I say what I'm looking for. I did not dismiss your information, I simply said that I already acknowledged what you said in my first post here (I know EPA ratings are always off so I take them with a grain of salt) but again, a 30% delta appears to be an outlier based on many other trucks in this thread as well as similar trucks as mine on Fuelly. There are a scarce few here that have the same issue, so I am asking if they've found any solutions with the dealer or FCA. In addition to my truck performing poorly compared to others here and on Fuelly, I highlighted that it gets worse mileage than my old non-etorque hemi with 3.92s, a 4" lift, 36" tires, etc. It makes for a valid question hence me being here asking questions - it's what forums are for.I said useful information. Try driving 60mph and not 70mph and watch your highway mileage jump 2-3mpg. EPA testing isn't done at 70mph.If you go back to my first post in this thread (#1667) I say what I'm looking for. I know that I personally get annoyed when I'm trying to track down info on forums and some users take up pages bickering and derailing the thread, so this is my last engagement with you for the sake of other users sanity.
Your doing better than me I'm getting about 10.5 in town.Just adding my two cents to this thread. I have a 2020 eTorque Limited, only modifications are a tonneau cover and D-load 275/60/20 K02's. There is no "chip" that does what it claims. For your truck, the JB4 piggy back tuner is the only thing available right now and it gets you close to 100hp increaseFWIW, I have a 2025 Limited Longhorn with the SST HO, 3.92 gears and 22" tires. I'm coming from a 2012 fully deleted 2500 with the 6.7L Cummins. Surprisingly, I'm getting about the SAME mileage, both combined and highway driving with BOTH trucks. Granted my 2012 is deleted, but I'm burning fuel inside a 6.7L engine. I really thought that I would get better mileage with this 3.0L Hurricane. However, just as surprising, I'm recording mileage exactly what Stellantis quoted on my window sticker; right around 17MPG in town and exactly 21MPG on the road. I do NOT mash the accelerator every time I pull away from a stop sign/red light and that makes a HUGE difference, as hard as that is to resist. The 3.0L rips.....very good performance......no dissatisfaction there. Poor fuel economy across the board is also compounded by the "winter grade" of gasoline in the northeast AND the colder than usual weather we have been experiencing. Overall though, this 3.0L is the smoothest and quietest engine I have experienced in ANY ICE vehicle in my 48 years of driving. Almost 7500 care free (s)miles. Definitely a PLUS with LESS weight up front.....better for your front end and tires. This truck is a keeper.......as I fully expect the MFR and the aftermarket will come up with tunes which will most likely crank out (a lot) more HP and hopefully better mileage. Was going to consider "chipping" my vehicle, but I think those vendors are selling pure snake oil. If those "chip manufacturers" brag about REALLY getting another 3-5 MPG AND improved performance for $139.00, don't you think every dealer would buy every chip they could get their hands on and install in every vehicle AND NO impact your warranty? I doubt it....but am open to what other forum members think about these chip "scammers". Love this truck!!! But it's no 2500 with the Cummins....totally different truck for a different application and use!! Wheels down!!!
