Poor gas mileage

I drove my new 2021 home from the dealer 4 weeks ago. 800 mile trip and I averaged 23mpg. I have the 5.7 with E-Torque and 3:21 final drive. I am averaging about 18mpg around town. The 23mpg was the same as my 3500 with the Cummins I traded in. A pleasant surprise for sure. My highway mileage may get better once I get a few more miles on it.

Is yours FWD? What was your average speed on the highway? I just drove from TX to IL, about 800 miles and the best I could get was 21 driving about 75 MPH average . Mine is FWD.

You guys getting poor fuel mileage, how are you honestly driving the truck? Are you 1st across the intersection, accelerate to the speed limit quickly?
My truck is a fully loaded Limited 4x2, only missing 4x4 and MFT, truck weighs 5200lbs according to the BNSF weight tag left in the truck when shipped and I get 17.5-18 mpg in the city since day one. I bought the truck last july and track every fill up, 26 gallon tank and I refill between 23 & 24 every fill up and get 420-435 miles per tank since July last year and now at 20K miles, I'm at 17.9 mpg average mostly city.

I am not the 1st across the intersection but I'm not the last either, I drive about 5-10 over the speed limit unless I'm in a 30mph zone where its hard to hide. I don't really try to accelerate until the truck is in 8th, I accelerate sainly until then and this nets me consistent 17.8-18mpg in the city. On the highway I average 23-24 @ 75 mph, 70 gets me around 24-25 and 80 drops me to about 19-20.

I did swap my paper air filter for an AEM dry flow filter and today noticed my mileage increasing, I've been beating on the truck over the weekend chasing down a vibration (pulled the drive shaft to grease the splines and phased it wrong on reassembly causing a small vibration about 15' from a standing start) and went from 17.8 at about 1/3 tank used or about 140 miles on this tank, down to 15.9.
I put the AEM in yesterday and today did some city driving, about 40 miles all together and the fuel mileage is already back up to 16.8.

Why did you pull your drive shaft when you’re under warranty? I haven’t switched to aem yet but I plan to. So far I’ve removed the carbon filter and it helped mds engage a little.

It was easier and faster for me to remove and grease the splines and reinstall vs taking it in. I may have spent an hour and I know I'd have been at the dealer service far longer and wouldn't know how well a job they did.
Unless it's something major, mechanical or electrical, I'm not taking it in.
Many people report the corners of their guage pod covers lifting, the dealer wants to replace the dash to fix it just to have the new dash do tge same thing. I fixed mine in 15 minutes with a heat gun after the service said they'd need to replace the entire dash. F that, not going to the dealer except for real problems.

6,000 miles in i get around 11.4 mpg's in mixed driving though mostly city (stop and go) obviously slightly aggressive and enjoy my Borla ATAK a lil too much. Did a long weekend 100 mile trip each way to Ocean City and was up to 14.6 but that went out the window real quick after we got home lol!

Went camping up in Lake George last weekend. With 4 adults and full bed. 80% highway. My "Range Mi" keeps getting higher and higher every time I fill up (33gal tank).

Yes, mine is Four Wheel Drive. My speed varied from 40 to 65 for the first 400 miles and then 50 to 75 the last 400 miles. I tried to vary the speed up and down as well as duration to help the break-in.

I drive like a grandpa!!!

A full tank for me (26gal tank) initially shows right around 350-370 miles.

I kept wondering why you were asking if he had a front wheel drive truck. Then I realized you meant 4x4.

I get about 14.5 mpg. I have 35 inch tires, a 4 inch lift and kind of drive like a loon. I figure I am doing as good as the guys that are claiming to get in the 20s.

My last tank, albeit in worst case conditions (tons of very short neighborhood drives), was 318 miles on the 33 gallon tank. Mileage for this tank has rocketed up to 13.7 mpg so I hope to at least get 400 miles out of the tank.

Blurry picture but I’m getting some decent MPG’s. Running 89 or 93 only

Doh! I'm going to take my med's now and go lay down. Yea, I meant 4X4.

I drive like a grandpa in the truck, not going to lie. I've traditionally driven like a bat-outta-hell, but I don't feel the need to put 'r through the paces on pavement. 1) people can go around, and 2) that's what my wife's Macan is for. 😂 🤷‍♂️

I don't really baby it. I'll haul *** from time to time passing something. Most of the roads around here are simple state roads, rolling hills, curves, and 40-50ish MPH speed limits. The one interstate I travel has a 70mph speed limit is rolling hills and curves, so I set the cruise for 75-79ish and go. I just generally keep the RPMs around 2K or lower and it works out fine. In that way, it is quite similiar to how my old 08 Tacoma with a 4.0 drove. RPM around 2K. The Dodge gets much better mileage though.

Kinda hard to see but set the cruise at 65 on a flat rd. Instant was between 23 and 25 without mds. Average is kinda low, since I’ve been doing a lot of city driving/idling. Its back up to 18 now

Yeah I'm about the same as you with MPG's. Flat roads cruising 65 is about 23-26mpgs. at 70 it's about 21-24mpg if it's flat. I'm about to level the front of mine 2 inches so I'll see if that decreases this great mileage I've been getting. I didn't want to but I was tired of looking at the raked look. I had the rear lowered, but I didn't like how it drove and when I towed anything it was horrible, so I decided to level the front a little.
