Part in glove box? Part number 68361100AC plastic cover for tailgate removal

There's another reason besides keeping dirt and water out of the connector. When the tailgate is removed you'll get a Tailgate Open message in the cluster. This adaptor makes the computer believe the tailgate is still connected.

Anyone know what this bag of parts is for? It was in my glove box when I got my new truck.

I’ve got that also I’m pretty sure and wasn’t sure what it went too...

Does anybody read the thread before reposting the same question for the 3rd time? Inquiring minds want to know.
I merged the threads. This question gets asked once a month, so was trying to make it easier to search...since most people refer to it as a thing.

Found this too, came here to find out what it was. Makes sense that it's for electrically satisfying the truck computer that the tailgate is gone and no warnings to that are needed. Just seems funny as so few folks remove their tailgate that this is included with all trucks. You'd think they'd prefer to save the $1.50 per part per truck (600K trucks these days that over a million dollars!) and only provide it after sale for a profit level price. Just odd to me. Anyway, just speculating, no real scientific data here.

Does anyone know what it is? I even don’t know if it belongs to my truck. I found it in glovebox of my Laramie.

It's for when you remove your tailgate. It plugs the wires going into the tailgate.
