Panoramic roof shade issue

Hello everyone, I just purchased a ram with the panoramic roof. I have an issue when I try opening the shade only, nothing happens when I press it to open. However if I open the shade using the button to open or tilt the actual glass and then use the close shade button (which doesn’t work to open) it does work and closes the shade. Any reason why this might be? Basically the close portion of button works but the open doesn’t. Is there something in the settings that prevents it from opening? Or is this a factory defect and the dealer needs to replace the button? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2019 big horn 1500 and haven't had issues with mine. Seems like a defect.

It sounds like all the mechanisms are working except the shade opening by switch only. I'd guess defective switch as my Laramie doesn't have any user mods in the setting that I know interfaces with the sun roof.
The good news, I would suggest, is it should be a straight forward fix.

Welcome to the forum.

This is def an issue. Mine has been trouble-free and works as designed.
Have the dealer take a look.

Probably the wire to the shade switch isn't tight or off completely. A couple of years ago, there were a few owners that had the overhead wiring not connected. There were instructions for the diy guys and how to disassemble the overhead console if you want to go digging.

I’ve never experience this... definitely an issue. I know that there is a reset/calibration for the sunroof, but I don’t believe the same for the shade.

I'm thinking defective switch(es). I have no issues with mine, and I've used it a lot recently with the nice weather we're getting (in-between thunderstorms). I'd take it to the dealer and see if they can figure it out under warranty.

Thanks to everyone for the replies and help. Made an appt with dealership to get it looked at. That in itself was a mission since almost every dealership on Long Island NY has like a 1 month wait for appts.
It’s strange that the close portion of that button works but the open doesn’t. Is there a fuse that controls that switch, perhaps I can remove it and reconnect it.

I apologize for the trouble, @Bwsteg. If it would be of interest, I would be happy to escalate a case on your behalf to a specialist who can provide both you and your dealer with an additional layer of support in addressing this concern. Our team is just a private message away to get the process started.

I took it to the dealership yesterday and they said the entire console (where the sunshade/pano roof) buttons are have to be replaced. Supposedly it’s 1 piece which I found strange. I would think that the single button that is malfunctioning could be replaced only instead of everything. Eitherway they ordered the console and I have to wait 5 days for the part to arrive.

Thank you for the follow up on this! If your dealer experiences a delay in receiving the console, please do not hesitate to follow up with us via private message. I am more than happy to get a case escalated on your behalf at any point.

Unfortunately, nope, hard to believe as it is. My 4th gen was the same way. LED reading lights were flickering, and they replaced the overhead console. Everything is that way now, cars to computers to vacuum cleaners. Don't fix it, replace the module, way cheaper (due to labor).

Sounds like maybe someone didn't tighten down the bolt or nut on a ground wire or strap at some point, hence the no charge (NC). :)

Update: dealer ordered a new overhead console and “supposedly” installed it today. Tech said it worked so SA calls me to pick up car. When I get there, shade still doesn’t open. Now we’re back to the beginning trying to find out what’s wrong. I doubt the shade ever worked today and the tech most likely opened it half way with the glass open button instead of using the actual shade button. This has been one big headache with days of work missed for nothing.

Just had a chance to respond to your PM on this, @Bwsteg.

Do you know where that ground was and what exactly needed to be done to find that ground? In my situation, dealership wants to pull the entire headliner down and I’m not quite sure how I feel about it since I’d hate to develop rattles after putting it back together.
