Purchased the truck new 7/3/23 As I was doing a walk around during the delivery at the dealer (Driveway CDJR of Portland. Now Time CDJR) I pointed out the large paint defect on the tailgate. The GM took pictures and we brought it into the service department. The service advisor wrote up the truck and said he would be in contact with me. Two weeks past and I drove back in. This time the advisor stated it's just not worth their time because it's not profitable for them to have this repainted.

Left a message to the GM about what happened. No calls back.

Dealer #2 (Gresham Dodge) Talked with the service advisor and service manager. Was told half of the truck would have to be painted and blended due to the defect. Took pictures and said they will call a few body shops and schedule me in to drop it off.
That never happened.

Fast forward another few months. I bring it in again and said they would get back to me. Nope. 8/2/24 The advisor sent me a text asking for pictures (even though he had taken pictures in the service drive) I sent him the two pictures he requested. No response after sending the images.

One year later. The lower grille is coming off, the paint under the step pad is rusting and I am at my final straw. I wan't this truck bought back. 2 years and I only have 7000 miles on this.

@RamCares Could you step into this and perhaps help me get the ball rolling on a buyback? I would appreciate it and I will most likely purchase another Ram truck when the 2026's with the 5.7 come back.

Last 8 of the vin if you need it.

Thanks,
-Mike

That’s really odd you haven’t had this repaired through Ram. My last 2 new vehicles both had paint defects.
1st one was a new ‘21 Challenger ScatPak. I didn’t notice any paint defects till a couple of days later while showing it to some coworkers. On the right front fender above the tire there was an area where the paint appeared as a different color/shade. Once you saw it, it was very noticeable at the right angle. Took it back to my purchasing dealership (120 miles one way ) and the Service Manager took some photos. Told me he’d notify Chrysler and get back to me. In a couple of weeks he said to take it to my choice of body shops near me. It was fixed to perfection.
Last was my ‘22 Ram 1500 which had a foreign body under the paint on the top edge of the passenger door. That was reported to my dealership where I bought it and told me to take it to the body after they took some pics. It was actually the same body shop as this dealer is local to me. Again the door was repainted/cleared and some moldings were replaced.
Not sure why you are being jerked around.

Something doesn’t sound right here. Are you saying you pointed this out to them before signing any paperwork? Any time I’ve found something like that before actually buying the vehicle I make sure it gets written into the sales paperwork. Basically I don’t buy it if that doesn’t happen. Why did you take delivery of this truck before it was fixed?

The other thing that is strange to me is they told you that half the truck would have to be painted to blend the paint. That’s a load of BS. They could just paint the tailgate and be done with it. There’s no need to blend the paint.

I don’t see you getting a buy-back after two years of owning the truck, but I’m not familiar with Oregon’s lemon law requirements. Good luck.

MY WIFES 2017 PACIFICA HAS THIS ISSUE ALL ALONG THE HOOD. WE WERE 2ND OWNER AND OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY BUT ITS AN ISSUE FOR SURE

No. I noticed it after completion of the paperwork. I saw the truck indoors originally. It was only after the paperwork was done and the vehicle was waiting outside I was handed the keys and I looked over the entire truck outside the general manager worked the deal with me and was there when we did the walk around at delivery. I noticed it and she took photos of it. Before leaving the dealership we drove it right into the service drive to have it written up.

Thats when the BS started on day one. Feels more like "well we got paid so bug off."

[vent] With no attempts of setting up an appointment to have the talgate repainted has left me frustrated. Heck, perhaps I should get a quote to have it done and I can get compensated from the manufacturer and just live with it. I'd probably be fine with that as well. [/vent]

Should be able to get a quote from a body shop, then take that to dealer. I found a run in my paint on rocker panel below passenger door a couple months after I got the truck. Took it to my local dealer, not even the one I bought it from, and they had no issues taking care of it. But they do have a body shop in the dealer network. Set an appointment, dropped it off in morning, and picked it up that afternoon . They basically sanded the run and buffed it out.

Yours would obviously take more than just a sand and buff, but shouldn't be that big of a deal for the dealership to handle . Even if they don't have an inhouse body shop most have a local body shop they work with. Seems like it's just lazy service writers. Maybe next time you go in, ask to talk to service manager personally.

My time is worth more than what it would cost to just have a local body shop repaint the tailgate. I'd go that route if it were me and forget dealing with the dealership BS.
