Oil Leaking from this - What is it?

Wow, that's shocking how loose it got. I guess the wires not being disconnected isn't an issue if it got looser over time (wires would be in the same location since install). Unless it was installed too loose to begin with?

Assuming standard clockwise thread?

My lazy self will just stick a wrench in there and give it a bit of a snug. Tightening plastic scares me.

In the meantime, I should take a look at mine.

Only plastic is the connector. The sensor and the Hex area where you put wrench are metal
 
Me too. I thought I just didn’t clean up my mess well from my last oil change and I’m meticulous and thought I was losing it. It honestly looked like the oil cooler housing was leaking but I touched the oil temp sensor with my fingers and it moved. I gave it a few turns and cleaned it off seems good now. Had more issues with this thing then I’ve ever had with my ‘99 Dakota when it was similar age.
