The Ram boxes seem nice. I don't have them to comment on thier viability for weatherproof storage on a trip. I would think a hard tonneau cover would be the best bet. Like others have said, most items will fit in the back seat.

But, if it is important to you, reorder. If it is for the trip, will it be in time?
The ram boxes have a really good seal. They are very handy and I wouldn't own the truck without them.

Well, folks, I just found out my truck was delivered to the dealer this morning so I have to make a decision. Do I take the truck without the RAM Boxes or do reorder.

I've read every response and thank you all very much for your input. I never had a truck with the RAM Boxes, they were not an option when I got my 2013 and I could not get them on my 2015 because of the gooseneck/fifth-wheel prep package. So I thought this time was the charm.

I'm thinking about what @Eighty posted above regarding order audits, I don't want to get caught up in that mess. Also, with the current influx of large orders, I might not see a reorder for a while, possibly past my timeframe (remembering our "See America" trip). I also nosed around and found combo lockable tool storage with an aux fuel tank. That would come in handy before crossing into California, having a full complement of fuel onboard. The aux tank could then be used on my 2015 3500 that we use to haul the Montana.

I'm going to play it this way. I will discuss the missing RAM Boxes with my dealer and see what their input is and make a decision. I have to keep in mind my second choice truck doesn't off anything like RAM Boxes.

@rbdennis The Soo is beautiful and be sure to spend a day or two at the locks watching the lake freighter pass through.

Sometimes, chasing perfection can be a real dream-killer.

If your POC lists those RamBoxes and the truck was built without them, you might consider taking some recompense in addition to the price of the rambox option. This way, you can stay on schedule with your family plans and even have some extra spending change for those "I feel like an ice cream" stops along the way.

If your getting them more or less to use on your vacation I would say.. with some decent compensation off the price off the truck i would go ahead take the new truck. There’s other options such as a decent tonneau cover and swingbox cases you can also use but I would also toss anything that can’t get wait until totes.

My needs for my 5th gen were different having come from a 4th gen Ram w/o the Rambox option once I discovered that it was an option and how I use my truck (work truck ish) I knew I had to have them or I probably would of kept my 4th Gen Ram. Having my tools on one side and not having to keep climbing in and out of the bed to grab one = priceless. I use to carry a few rigid toolboxes and lifting them in and out every time they jobs over with and heading to the next got old real fast. This way my tools are always in the truck so waiting between jobs I know longer have to unpack my bed to free up that bed space like I did before even though I still carry a Milwaukee pack out box but that has my PPE and isn’t extremely heavy.

Weigh out your options and let us know what you decide to do.

On November 30th, I put in an order for a 2022 Longhorn, 45 days later I'm notified it is built and I have a window sticker. I'm excited because in a week or two I'll be driving my new truck, I'm local to SHAP. I'm also thrilled my order to build was so short compared to many of the posts I've read.

Well, that excitement was short-lived. In reviewing the WS I noticed one option was missing, the RAM Box option. When I ordered, the dealer had allocation and every option I ordered was available. The order went it and the next day I had a VIN. I have not talked to the dealer yet to find out what happened but likely the dealer simply dropped the ball. I also noticed the time between ordering and assembly, the Longhorn's base price increased $885.00, a sad sign of the times I guess.

I'm kind of hung on what to do. Should I reorder and wait for what I want knowing I will keep the truck for 8 or more years or should I take what was built and live without the RAM Boxes? I've never had that option so I won't know what I'm missing but I think, in my use case, they would be beneficial. I was looking for additional lockable storage for the trips my wife and I have planned this coming spring.

I would like to get a feel of what you would do if presented with the same situation. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
The same thing happened to me. I built the truck and selected the option for the side steps. They never showed up on the window sticker or truck and as I can add those easily aftermarket I took delivery and the truck. In the end it’s your decision on how much you need and want the boxes

I like your box with backup fuel option. It might be the best way to roll.

Given all the complaints on here about how poorly they fit and the bad finish on them, it may be best to take delivery of the truck without them.

Agreed. That along with the price increases and how bad I wanted them equaled out to taking the one that was built, tomorrow it comes home and it has already appreciated over 2k.

Congrats...it looks beautiful!

Dude I've been waiting 7.75 months for my truck (ordered June 3,2021) which has a bunch of options including Ramboxes...I would take it without them...and half the other options I ordered! LOL

ENJOY
