MPG - 12.5: is it normal?

I’ve been a Chevy man all my life too. Decided to try ram after hearing about the interior, the ride quality, and power. Not disappointed at all!
So far THE only thing I have a reservation about is the MPGs. Honestly the interior and ride quality are a higher level. The air shocks are so good.

I have a Leer hard top on mine and there is no change that I've noticed in the mpg.

I was worried about MPGs too. Thats why i wanted the 3.21 rear end. I doubt you'll see much change with CAI or Tonneau. Alot of people report worse MPG with exhausts too.

MPG's never even entered my mind when I ordered my truck. If MPG's were important to me, I would have ordered the little diesel. The MPG difference between the 3.21 and 3.92 gears is negligible if you drive a mix of city and highway. If you drive a lot of highway miles above 75 MPH, you will definitely see a difference.

I did some research and then test drove a couple of rams. I don’t tow much so I don’t need the tall gears. The 3.21s were a few mpg better at 65mph so I went that route. Just a personal preference.

The 3.21's are the tall gears. 😂

Remember idle time will lower you MPG average... so if you remote start you truck your MPG will not be accurate unless you reset it every time you start driving.

It's been proven that a tonneau cover does nothing to improve MPG's.
Been proven not to increase mpg by who? I'm stating personal experience on several different trucks not to mention two different 5th gen Ram 1500s..... Please show me?

New to Ram, and love the 21 I just bought. The truck just feels great. Interior is superb, it's quiet, rides wonderfully and really meets my expectations.

I will say I'm initially disappointed in the fuel economy. Last three vehicles were GMC Sierra (08, 14, 17) crew cab 6.5' bed pickups, and they got better each iteration until my last (17) with the 6.2L that was seeing MPGs in the low 20s using cruise control on highway trips. Sweet.

Now, I'm still on my first tank of gas (and thank goodness for the 33gal tank- why doesn't GM do this on half tons??)... so, it's anybody's guess what fuel the dealer put in from the get-go. But so far I've reset the fuel economy tracker twice after doing some more idling than usual while setting up systems, etc. Best I've seen with my normal driving is 17mpg. Ok. Worst is 13mpg. On stock junky tires! Damn.

Next I'm putting on real tires (BFG KO2 285/65; ~2" larger diameter) and anticipate a drop in MPGs, but get that is inherent with a larger tire. I want them to fill the wheel wells better and give me a little better clearance. No prob to see 1-2mpg loss in exchange.

Data points: 2017 GMC had a lifetime fuel economy (35k mi) of 18mpg. That included remote starts on cold mornings, quick accelerations, passing people at the speed limiter, etc. Heaviest thing I tow is a 500lb trailer.

If this half ton gasser can't come close to that, I might as well buy one of the new V6 turbo hybrid engine rigs from Toyota or Ford. But then I'd be driving a Toyota or Ford... so maybe not!

My 2021 Rebel is over month old now. About 3200 Km on it. 90-95% highway. About 250Km was off-roading. That dropped it bit.
Truck so far says 21-19. I'm in Canada, and I use 'regular' gas.

I drive fast. From 120Km up to 165 Km.
I also changed rim/tires from 275/70/18 stock to 295/60/20

I have a 2022 1500 Limited, Hemi, 3:21 and my first trip Orange County to Reno on 395, I averaged 17.5 mpg. Every trip after that was 14.5 and last trip in February was 12.5. I was doing 79 to 85 most of the time.

These trucks arent very aero dynamic. going north of 65mph will be very detrimental to mpg. Hell, even driving 55 into a strong head wind will drop my mpg by 2 to 3.

Yep, these trucks have a sharp drop off on highway mileage based on speed. I get about 23mpg if I stay between 65-70, 20-21 cruising at 75, and 19-20 near 80. Limited w/ 3.21 + eHemi

18mpg at 85 seems about right...

I drive 80-82 mph daily on my 80 mile daily round trip. My average is 17-18 mpg in summer and 13-15 mpg in the winter. This past weekend I did a 600 mile road trip averaging 65 mph and got 19 mpg. It only gets better at lower speeds but I rarely drive any slower on longer trips.

This has been exactly the same on my last two 4th Gens with 3.21’s. eTorque on my 2022 has made zero difference for me. It just doesn’t suit my driving style to show any advantage.

I get 14mpg if I go 80 on the highway. I'm not so sure it's about aerodynamics.... I have 3.92s
