Just bought my ram and have 1,000 miles on it and noticed moisture in the headlights tonight. Anyone have them replaced and it fixed the problem ? Are the dealerships willing to replace or do they say its normal?

There were some old threads about this, and I believe the posters had theirs replaced. You’d have to search to confirm...

Hi Sobczynd,

We certainly understand why this would be concerning. If you have not done so already, we kindly recommend following up with your selling dealer as they are in the best position to advise and provide assistance. If you do end up working with your dealer, we are just a PM away and happy to provide you with additional support for that process.

Like this? I had 200 miles on mine and it went in. The service advisor looked, and said she will call when the new ones are in. They had the replacements within 12 hours and I had new headlights in the truck within 48 hours (due to my schedule) of me just stopping by figuring I’d have to make an appointment.

Good to know they did it without running around.

Now that you’ve had the replacement parts installed for a few months, have you seen any sign of moisture in these replacement units?

FROM 2019 DT Service Manual:
08 - Electrical / 8L - Lamps and Lighting / Lamps/Lighting - Exterior / UNIT, Front Lamp / Standard Procedure

STANDARD PROCEDURE - LAMP LENS DEFOGGING

NOTE:
Images are not specific to vehicle, and only used for showing the lamps either good or bad per the procedure.
Some customers may report that on occasion, vehicle exterior lamp assemblies are fogged with a light layer of condensation on the inside of the lenses. This may be reported after the lamps have been turned on and brought up to operating temperature, turned off, and then rapidly cooled by cold water (such as rain, or the water from a car wash). Lens fogging can also occur under certain atmospheric conditions after a vehicle has been parked outside overnight (i.e., a warm humid day followed by clear cool night). This will usually clear as atmospheric conditions change to allow the condensation to change back into a vapor. Turning the lamps on will usually accelerate this process.

Fig 1 Normal

A lamp that exhibits condensation/fogging should be evaluated in a service bay environment by first drying all water from the outside surface of the lens and operating the lamp for 20 minutes. If the condensation/fogging has begun to clear from the lamp lens after 20 minutes with the lamps operating, this indicates the lamp sealing has not been breached, and the lamp does not need to be replaced.

Fig 2 Breached seal indication

If the condensation/fogging has not begun to clear after 20 minutes with the lamps operating, or the lamp has large amounts of water droplets visible on most internal surfaces, this indicates a problem with the lamp sealing that has allowed water to enter the lamp. In this instance, the customer is also likely to report that moisture in the lamp is always present and never disappears. A lamp that exhibits internal moisture permanently should be replaced.

I had a badly leaking front headlamp last winter. They took pictures of it and the whole truck. I think they thought the truck may have been in an accident. Anyway, I had to wait about two weeks, but a new housing came in and was replaced. The problem has never returned.

Best regards,
Dusty

Knock on wood they’ve been good. We’ve had a temperature roller coaster, and weather extremes here in New Hampshire. Id imagine they’d be fogged back up by now if they were going to.

Regarding my previous post, I have an unlimited car wash program and usually get one wash a day all year long. The issue has never returned.

Thanks Dusty - will make sure this is addressed by the dealer on my first trip back...
