I looked for a truck for about a year that checked off all the boxes I needed/wanted to tow my camper.
Camper is about 5200lbs loaded. It's not a huge weight to tow but ummmmm, I was towing it with a 2016 Chevy Colorado Z71, V6, 305hp, 6speed transmission. It $ucked towing to say the least.
It's just the 2 of us so the quad cab gives me the bigger box for "stuff".

This RAM gets better mileage towing than the Colorado did. Colorado was 10mpg, the RAM is getting 12mpg... This truck is just not working anywhere near as hard as the Colorado.
I really love the 3.92 gears...
Yup, gotta agree the payload is great...
yes i have a rebel fully loaded i offroad and camp alone … but i use the truck for work also its a eco diesel. so when i tow i tow lol

I found this chart a while back. Looks like the vast majority will meet that threshold. The TRX and a select few Crew Cabs don't but otherwise seems pretty common to exceed 1700 lbs.

E-torque must be the killer, cuz I got nothing else. Check sig line. If I would've known it didn't help mpg and cut payload this bad, no way I would've ordered it this way.

I would not have expected 300# difference between yours and mine! I guess the larger Crew cab and the E-Torque, as you mentioned add up.

I was only referencing the Tradesman in my post because that is the start point for the chart that Shots posted.

We traded down from a 36' 5th wheel to a 24' 5,500lb travel trailer so I down graded from my 2018 3500 CTD to a 22' Gladiator max tow. Then I realized, since I have a 05 TJR, I really didn't need another Jeep. Also I realized that the Gladiator just wasn't that comfortable pulling the new travel trailer. I found a 21' 1500 Big Horn crew cab that checked all the boxes for me and just added air bags to compensate for the sag. I'm looking forward to a better towing experience with the Ram.

I don't know how much the etorque weighs, but the difference between a quad cab and a crew cab are huge. The only difference I see between our trucks is I have etorque and a crew cab and my payload is 1687#

You are accustomed to towing the 5th wheel so towing knowledge is there.
Towing a smaller TT will be easier.
Our trucks are the same except mine is a 2022 & a quad cab...
You will enjoy it!

Rambox, eTorque, crew cab vs quad cab, and 4x4 vs 4x2 are some of the biggest culprits in adding weight.
I think the multi-function tailgate adds a bit of weight as well.
