Anyone else have the annoying drone and vibration when the MDS kicks on at 48-50mph? Mine is so bad it vibrates my foot on the floorboard. It's not that noticeable with the radio on, but still can hear it if I try. I can disable it by hitting the tow/haul button or putting the gear limit to 8. I looked at the current TSB's and didn't see any fixes for this.

TIA

I wish mine had Eco Boost! (And yeah, I get some vibration too)

There is a slight vibration, which I would say is normal. Anything more would be a concern.

nope. only way I can tell my truck is in Eco mode is by the light on the dash. Im very impressed how this system works combined with the etorque.

No Eco Boost here....I drive a RAM. But yes, I can feel MDS a little. I think its more ones perception that determines whether they feel it or not; it is very slight. My Pontiac G8 GT was much worse when MDS kicked in.

It’s much better than MDS on my previous 4th gen, but still noticeable..and negligible mpg benefits in my 4th gen. I turned it off entirely with superchip..that and the high number of camshaft/lifter failures in mds vehicles. I’m thinking about disabling mds entirely my big horn.

^^^ As lifter failure is not uncommon in a hemi topic. Failures are more prone on the gen 1-2 hemi. With many failures stem from lack of maintenance to all gens. I just worked on a ‘11 with a failed lifter which was not a mds(collapsable) cylinder lifter which many times is the case also. Just food for thought.

Good point. Here’s a ‘12 non-mds I just did too. No noise at idle either. 7B5D50B5-4E1E-4E01-A596-00065421CC4F.jpeg830FDD83-4266-4404-A259-A40112CBB8A8.jpeg

Thanks for pics on it. Wasn’t picking on ya, just trying to be as informative and clear as possible to the masses here. Many don’t know or I’ll informed if lift issues of the past.

Hell I’ve seen my fair share of GM and Ford lifter/valve train issues on them as well. Which was a lot even before cylinder displacement was around.

Hi, just took the plunge into a new Ram 1500 Crew 6'4" 5.7L from a 2015 Silverado and what a difference in power! I'm still breaking it in at 300 miles. I just noticed something a little odd this week that I didn't notice before that around 30-35 mph I'm getting a groan from the engine like I'm in too high of a gear or something. I can get rid of the groan by putting it in Limit 8. Would this happen to be the MDS system I'm hearing about? My Silverado used to do something similar and I bought a Black Bear Tuner to turn off the 4cyl cutoff. Is there anything the dealer can do? I'm fime using limit 8 at slow speeds but would rather have my regular drive do it for me, just change the shift point up a little.

Hello, welcome and congratulations on the new Ram!!! You are correct that is what you are hearing. At this time there is no known tuner that will shut it permanently off( that I know of). Stuff in works don’t think out yet. You will have to stick to the 8 gear select at this time.

Pretty sure, the Edge/Pulsar piggy-back unit, has 8 tunes, 4 MSD and 4 non-MDS tunes..Stock, Econ, Towing, Performance

^^^ yes it does. It doesn’t disable the system it kicks throttle to push out of it. I wouldn’t call it a full tuner per say. Just my thought though

Mine happens at lower speeds(under 40) if its the same problem. Just now my back doors constantly vibrated for a mile at exactly 29 mph and 1250 rpm. Hopefully I finally found the "sweet spot" so I can finally recreate it for the dealer. Had a guy at Ram that was gonna research the issue and get back to me. That was 3 weeks ago.lol. I think he forgot

I am having the same issue, vibration sound in ECO, Vibration sound for a few seconds then goes away and then comes back. You can put it in tow mode and it never makes that sound. I have an appt. with dealer this week, hopefully they can figure it out

We certainly understand why this would be concerning, montybg. If it would be of interest, we'd be happy to have this documented and connect you with a case specialist for an additional layer of assistance as you work with your dealer. Simply follow up with us via PM to proceed in this manner.
