Mark Dodge Thread

for me, I can get a one-way ticket to lake Charles from ft Lauderdale on Friday of this week for $108. could change at any time though. I thought about the rental car scenario if the plane tickets were crazy expensive.
Fair enough. for whatever reason a ticket from Houston to Lake Charles is significantly more. If I could get there for $100 by plane I’m still not sure I would fly. It’s a 2 hour drive. No way I could drive to the airport, get through security, fly and be there faster than driving, but I am also far closer than you are.

I agree. If it was a 2-hour drive for me, I would do that over flying.

Tickets right now for me are ~$200-$300, from Philadelphia to New Orleans. Followed by a 3 day 1300 mile drive home. Still cheaper than delivery, and waaaaay cheaper than buying here.

I'm road tripping by myself, with a tent... plan to drive back via Smokey Mountains (a bit) and Shenandoah (a bit). If timing is right, racing at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

I'm just sitting here patiently waiting to fly out there and pick up the truck. I am off of work for 2 weeks letting a broken toe heal and the truck was delivered sat so any day now I should get the call. Been looking at tickets online ready to buy. about 1100 miles for me so I plan to fly out one day, go in early and drive back without stopping. no need to see anything at this time.

That’s what I’m gonna have to do. Flights are somewhat limited from MN. A 6 am flight gets me there are 3:30 pm which is think will be fine to take delivery, then hop on the road. Planning to drive a couple hundred miles and call it a day in Shreveport. Then get up early, get some breakfast, load up on coffee and hit the 1,000 mile trip home.

The uncertainty of when I’m gonna have to ask my partners to cover me is what kills me. It is what it is.

reached out to MD this morning, was told the same thing, for the PDI and final inspection process, it can take 4-7 days. But due to their current volume, 7 days is about the length of time for that. But they said once that is done, it is another 1-3 days, give or take, for the financing to get started. So for everyone who's truck arrived sat, sit back and wait.

Thanks for the update!

I'm now considering flying and driving if the transportation prices are going to be $1.40-1.90 per mile using MD's new company. The $1.85 quote that was posted Sunday would cost me over $3k. Think I'd rather spend a weekend driving at that price.

I've got some quotes from uship and Shipley for about $1.00 per mile or a little under, not sure how trustworthy these shippers are.

I'm feeling the same. I spoke with MD today. It was a bit disheartening to hear how much the prices increased. I was expecting an increase due to fuel costs, but not an entire changing of vendor, software, and changing of the charging model.

Greetings

I hope to make the decision on how best to get my hands on my truck pretty soon.
Truck was supposed to be "in port" on 7/2. Have not heard anything more. Trying to not pester the fine folks at MD.

I am in the KC area and shipping is probably about $ 1400.

Could drive it with a cohort, and convoy back, but it is 12 hours each way; fuel would cost $ 800 plus three hotel nights, another $ 350, so $ 1150.

Fly/drive would cost anywhere from $ 600 to $ 800 based on the cost of the flight.
It would be nice to know the date the truck is available for pickup more than a week in advance to save airfare (next week is $ 409; the week after is $ 250).

OR drive down with an HD truck and trailer and "ship" it myself. Two drivers could drive straight through. One night in Lake Charles and we are right about $ 700.00

Time may be a factor. My schedule is flexible, but a second driver would need time off work.

I want to re-iterate the value of this forum. By reading your experiences, I am better equipped to make a decision that works for me. While egos flare at times, generally this forum is pretty respectful and productive.
Thank you!

I’ve used uship twice now and had no problems with them. I just made sure to look at the feedback of the bidders before I made my decision

Once they contact you that your truck has arrived/passed inspection you have four days to complete the paperwork. That gives you about one week lead time to start looking for flights. It's not an issue if your truck sits there on their lot for the most part barring vandalism or weather. Mine sat there for about a week and half waiting for a shipper.

just received an email from Aaron with pics of my truck and the instructions for financing and in the email it says you can either finance the shipping cost or add a separate down payment to cover the shipping, just a FYI for everyone wondering.

I just got the same email with Pics on my new Longhorn.

You probably haven’t received the paperwork yet, but is the shipping being added to the purchase price? They told me it would, and that would make it a taxable item which is not ideal. I’m pricing out the shipping from another carrier who is licensed and insured and I got $1 a mile.

Www.viceautotransport.com if anyone wants to Guinea pig.

the email was just to do the initial credit application, but he explained the process after. as for shipping, it says they will add the cost of shipping to the deal and you can finance it or take care of it with a down payment.

So they are making it taxable.

They are quickly ruining their reputation.

Grainger in Iowa, or there was one dealer in the St Louis area mentioned, may now be better options for a lot of people.
I don’t really see what the issue is. Seems they’re giving you the option if you wanna finance the shipping or pay for it separately. I would assume if you pay for it separately you’re not being taxed on that, now if you include it in the deal then they would tax you on it.

My main concern is the increase in price. Sure its "only" a few cents more per mile, but going from say .80 cents to a $1/mile to now $1.40 adds up quick.

They don't own or run the shipping company. It's a third party contractor setting the rates, MD is just playing finder for you. Fuel has basically doubled. Not shocked the prices of shipping have gone up.

They’ll deliver to Houston
