Lowest Payload

After reading through these posts, I think I may have the lowest payload ever reported on a Ram 1500 - only 959 lbs!! I know - i should have taken it easy and not loaded her up with options. Does that mean realistically I couldn't pull ANY travel trailer except for a pop up maybe? I mean by the time you add a 350-400 lbs tongue weight, 350 for passengers, 200 for gas - I won't have any room for other cargo! Or is it acceptable to load the trailer itself since my vin-specific max towing is 10,858?

Just get some timbergrove airbags to help with leveling and payload a little bit.

7100 minus 959 is a base weight of 6141

Base weight includes gas...so you can take that 200lbs for gas out if your numbers.

That 10858...that is the most decieving number on the internet.

Your truck jas 3.92 gears. 17000 GCWR

Guess what happens when you take 17000 minus base weight.

10858. This is everything you can add to the truck and a trailer...as you see...no driver at that weight.

They used to do 300lbs for driver and cargo and 100lbs for options and 70 lbs for hitch with a 10% tongue weight, staying under GVWR.

So lets do that. 939 minus the 470 is 469. Which is 10% of 4690.

So your max tow is actually 4690.

Now a camper has a TW of 12 to 15%...so at 469 your max camper would be 3908.

See how the numbers are.

Now someone will be on and say you can tow 10k lbs which for a camper is 1200lb tongue weight. Just add springs and a prayer.

You have to make that call.

You might be able to fudge the numbers and use that trailer. The problem (or blessing) is that you would have to travel alone. You would have to keep the tanks empty and cargo low.

I wouldn't cross that one off...but you would have to be creative

I agree with devildodge. I think you could make the Lance work. Just don’t go throwing 500+ lbs of gear in the bed of your truck

Mine has a 2020 as well but it isn’t a Trailhawk. If we were getting a Trailhawk I would be driving it

When we had our St. Bernard we traveled with 2 vehicles camping all the time.

We camp every weekend. Every other weekend my wife has to work. We take 2 vehicles then.

I use a HeftyDuty because of what I haul in my truck. I wanted a REBEL bad...but to tow the camper I would be back to driving by myself.

I miss that dog
He would lay his head on my lap the entire trip. Until it was time to back up...i couldnt see the mirror
