So I was washing the truck today, hosing off the road salt from under the truck and I noticed something move when I hit it with the stream of water. I started looking closer and it was a substantial piece of metal hanging from under the truck. I reached under and I could move it around as though it was going to fall off any minute. At first I thought it was a gas tank strap that had come off. I jacked up the truck and this is what I found. See pics. It was attached to the drivers side frame just in front of the rear axle. The two bolts holding it on had about 5 or 6 turns until the bracket would have fallen off. Googling the part number shows this a skid plate bracket. I guess the factory started to install a skid plate on my truck, and then realized this VIN did not include them. Rather than taking the bracket off, they just let it hang loose under the truck. I thought I had heard something banging around from time to time, just figured it was something in my RamBox. <SMH> Go Ram.

I guess now you can either buy skid plates and finish the job or put this bracket up for sale to someone who wants to add skid plates to their Ram. By removing the bracket and thus reducing weight, think of how much better your gas mileage will be!

No reason to waste my time at the dealer. I removed the extraneous bracket myself. No remaining issues.
