I love my new truck. I really do. It’s my first truck and i told my wife, I’m going to drive this thing until the wheels fall off. That got me thinking. How long will this truck last? Mileage wise? I told the wife trucks are meant to go last 200,000 miles with normal wear and tear stuff but I didn’t really do full research on that.

I drive 25-60 miles a day. 35% city and 65% highway. I don’t tow anything. I never am going to need to put anything really heavy in my bed. I use the truck on the weekends as the family vehicle. Even though we have a new car. Just got drive the Ram. I plan on doing all scheduled maintenance on the truck through the dealer. What mileage do you think I could get out of this truck?

Hard to say exactly, on time maintenance and driving habits will play into the equation. My son and I are rebuilding a 97 Z71 that had 285,000 on it before transmission went out. The 5.7 vortex started miss firing in #3 & 6 around 275,00. My neighbor put 326,000 on a 2 wheel drive Silverado before it died.

Don't know about RAMs, but I had 139K on my 2005 Dakota, lots of towing... replaced the Transmission Control Module a year or two ago, but really nothing else major.

On a side note, my wife's Accord was at 198K miles and ran like a champ... only had to replace the clutch.

Doesn't sound like you are going to putting much stress on it and if you do all the maintenance, I don't see why it won't last a good long time.

I don't have an answer for how long the new Ram will last, but I have a 99 and mechanically it runs like new at 210*** miles, but because of where I live...rust has caused it great issues.

And with your limited use of the truck, your years with it can easily out rank the miles you have on it.

So the 99 is 20 years old. Still performing hard truck stuff everyday...and I don't really perform preventative maintenance much. Just drive it and fix what wears out.

So, with the exception of location and electrical stuff, the new truck should last as long as you care to keep it really.

Sounds good. I love in Austin Texas. I drive it soft. Every once in awhile I floor her. But it’s like 1 or twice a day and it’s just for about 2 seconds. Gotta feel that hemi power here and there. I was hoping it would last me at least 12 years.

Our 03 Hemi 2500 has 157 thousand on it and is 16 years old...12 years should be nothing for a pampered truck lol

And judging by other members from Texas, trucks don't rust much there

Sound like a story there... :ROFLMAO:
just telling him that is the only way the wheels will fall off...I have seen it though, contractor trucks that just get abused everyday...and I think I told the story in one of the towing and/or camping threads about the Titan we saw this year that was hauling a 5th Wheel and it sheared the lugs on the rear wheel...one of the reasons I have been discussing payload and towing so much.

Well I’m planning to buy a ‘19 limited. I hope it goes as long as my 2007 Avalanche LTZ. I’m at 355,000 miles and still going.

I like that. That’s what I’m hoping. Actually at least 200,000 miles but the more the merrier. Best of luck if you purchase a new Ram. Very enjoyable so far.

The 5.7L Hemi has been around a while. The tranny is new this year. Would be interesting to hear people with trucks that are 10 years old and have the 5.7L engine. This is my third truck with the 5.7L, but I have only had about 25k on my other trucks (leases). I thought about going with a 4th gen because of the relative value this time around (ok, yes I'm cheap), but talked myself into just buying a '19 because I appreciated the styling, and technological updates. I was comfortable with my experience in leasing the 4th gen with the same engines. I would think there are plenty of 4th gen's with high mileage that could speak from experience on longevity.

The hemi has been out for a loooooong time, its proven to be a reliable engine. Transmissions are pretty problem free up until 150,000-200,000, the ZF 8 speed is slightly changed for this year but it's been a solid tranny. Then you just have normal wear parts like bearings, brakes, u-joints, ball joints, etc. As with anything maintence is key, just washing it once a week helps more than you think.

Our 03 has The Hemi and the 5speed auto. Still runs great, sounds great and pulls hard...it really was the best alternative to the 360 V8 and the 488 V10 or 5.9 and 8.0 lol.

Have no complaints about it...other than I really like my V10 and 5 speed manual for towing.

The new Hemi gets much better mileage and has a good bit more power.
One of the reasons Ram kept the hemi for this new truck is tried and true and its a good truck motor

Yea yea, we've all told our wives, (most of us anyway, right?). this is the truck for the rest of my life...NOT!

3-5 years from now when the then new models come out, your equity in your current vehicle is more than payoff, you will more that likely tell the Mrs. " Hey, Honey, this is the one i will drive the wheels off. Just look at that nice Patriot Blue color.

You've left out a good argument: The new safety features will help us all and after all it's for the good of the family. Actually, it's FOR the family - not me.:)

Welcome from a neighbor who lives in Pflugerville

Oh I def used this a primary bullet point in my proposal!

When I was a kid, we went on lots of family road trips in the early 1990s. On one road trip, maybe 1992 or 1993, we were driving down a really long, straight incline and the small truck in the lane next to us had its back left wheel completely come off. It rolled straight down between our two vehicles and stayed straight on the line for at least 20-30 seconds until it passed out of sight.

The driver next to us looked like he was sh***ing bricks.

Probably the only memory from those road trips that's indelibly ingrained in my memory!
