It took me a while to find the reference, but the thermal axle is only offered on 4x2 trucks WITHOUT the towing package. Pickuptrucks.com wrote: “Right now, the system is only offered on the smaller (9.25 inches) non-tow-package axle.”

The article I posted wasnt the one i thought. When I just re read it I realize it didnt explain it as I had thought.

Very interesting sometimes how stuff they brag as new and kind of a look at us thing, they don't offer it on the most popular configurations...like surround...well you get what I mean.

This was probably something they came up with for the HFE. Hope they release some more info on that soon.
