... "and now my watch begins" :)

Currently driving a 2012 Jeep GC Laredo. It's been an awesome, flawless little Jeep over the entire 5 years that I've owned it. I'm at 150,000KM on the gauge, and only put $85 CAD (so, really, like 2 bucks American!) into the Jeep that I shouldn't have (beyond scheduled maintenance) for a brake pedal sensor. Reason I'm getting rid of it is that it just doesn't have enough grunt to pull what I hope to start pulling (travel trailer). I didn't even have factory tow package, so I was stuck to 3500 pounds max and that just wasn't going to cut it. The 3.6 does not do well with the Mercedes 5 speed anyway at the best of time, it's always lugging it's butt, the 2014+ is much better due to the 8 speed tranny.

Anyway. The Ford's are beyond moldy and stale so I didn't even look at them. I crossed shopped the Ram with the new GM twins (which I really like in higher trims), but those guys are nuts to be honest. Dealer quoted me $53,000 CAD for a GMC work truck with black bumpers, vinyl floors and no features beyond X31 offroad package + brake controller. They might wiggle down a bit, but I got a nicely optioned-up Big Horn in billet mettallic for a couple thousand less than that; stuff that my Ram has that the GMC didn't; power pedals, level 1 + level 2 stuff like remote start, heated seats, heated steering wheel, bedliner, park assist etc etc. I did ask them to quote an SLE which is much nicer than the plain work truck, but monthly payments (even at 0.9%) were going to be $100/month higher than my RAM (at 4.x %), still with some less features and a smaller engine (5.3). And the 2 trucks I test drove each had a tranny clunk or shake; the work truck when sticking it into reverse, and the SLE when it was messing around at country road speeds and it was dropping cylinders to reduce mpg. <-- nice feature, and might have been just my test truck, but it wasn't always that smooth. Combine that with a rear window leak that is prominent on certain trucks (rear slider window is cracked, some guys are left with moldy interiors and working with incompetent dealers, but up here in Canada we don't have any lemon laws) and I just didn't want to go there.

And GM does some really "bad for business" things. A) You don't get 4x4 low transfer case even on a "4x4" truck anymore. You need to get the offroad package (z71 for chevy, or x31 for gmc) to get 4x4 low. B) You can't get the 6.2 liter engine + 10 speed tranny unless you empty your wallet for the highest trims. That turned me off something fierce, and instead of them driving me into an even higher trim truck I just said "too bad, I'll go Ram instead". GM needs to stop that monkey business like yesterday.

So, I do like the GM twins for the most part, and perhaps next time, but so far I'm stoked with this Ram and it was by far the best value (what do you get for the money you spend).

Picked up my truck yesterday, wow, what can I say. This thing, even in bighorn trim, is very impressive. Some highlights in no particular order; starting it, the whine of the starter turning over for a good second or so and then the rumble when it catches :) I've only owned v6's my entire life so that song from the Hemi is quite a nice improvement. Ride quality is awesome. It's big (crew cab rear seats have lots of leg room), and is the first vehicle I own where my legs don't end up resting uncomfortably against the cabin trim (I'm 6'5). Power is smooth and effortless, even from the 3.21 rear end. It looks great, though I need to add a few mods (new rims/tires, running boards, and body color mirror caps).

One little gripe I have, is the very misleading marketing by RAM with the "keyless go" vs "passive entry". I mentioned this on a different thread already, as a previous Jeep GC owner I saw the "keyless" feature when I was placing my order and assumed I was getting "passive entry" as well. Going to talk to the dealer, hopefully work something out there. Kind of a let down, spend all that time researching and picking the features I want, waiting 6 weeks for the "perfect truck" spec'ed out just specifically for me, and ... it arrives missing something I really really wanted. :(

Congratulations on your new truck! Sorry to tell you (and PLEASE share IF the dealer comes back to you with a different solution : ) but that is one of the few "gotchas" that p*ssed me off too. I assumed Keyless Go meant "proximity key" and it just does not. Few of us found that out too late, for me the solution because i DID not want a Laramie trim with that 12 inch honkin' radio was to get the 8.4 with NAV and then i can just use remote features from my watch rather than messing with the key fob when i'm fixin' to get in it... but anyway you workaround, it is a bit combersome and a letdown to be sure... Try not to let it ruin an otherwise awesome truck... How about adding your specs to your signature, it really helps : ) : )

Agreed, the trick is to be happy with what I do have. I'm curious about your trick with the watch, does it require NAV? I have the 8.4 but didn't want to pay for NAV since I plan to just use android auto for those few trips I need navigation for. I just did a brief google search for after market keyless entry and "viper" came up with a bluetooth (cell phone??) option, but doesn't look like RAM is part of the supported vehicle list. There might be other after market options out there.

Yes sadly NAV is required to use remote operation of any kind, but having "remote start" on the key fob is a HUGE plus : )

Congrats on the new truck.

Make sure you go file for this additional rebate. Seems like they have been having problems with vin numbers being in the system so you have to call them so they send you the actual app. Do it within 60 days of purchase. Many of us have already received our checks. No strings attached.

The only qualification is that “someone in your household” must have a non-FCA vehicle.

Welcome and glad you went Ram. GM is nuts to decontent like that!

They are cutting features quite a bit, some trucks don't even come with sunglasses holders, and apparently adjustable pedals aren't an option at all anymore regardless of trim.
