Is this a powertrain mule for the upcoming 2019 Ram EcoDiesel?

Our eagle eyed spy photographer caught this 4th Generation Ram (DS) EcoDiesel near FCA's Chrysler Technology Center usually referred to as the CTC.

What gives this truck away as a powertrain prototype is the wiring running from under the hood into the cab, which is more than likely hooked up to a computer monitoring the engine during testing. During the 2019 Ram 1500 press conference in Detroit on January 15th, Mike Manley, Head of the Ram and Jeep brands, said that "When our diesel arrives in 2019, we are going to reclaim all the claims that we have." That statement was in direct response to Fords new 3.0 liter V6 Powerstroke diesel that is coming to the F150 this spring, as well as GM's new 3.0 liter inline 6 Duramax diesel coming to the all new Silverado and Sierra twins.

While the outgoing EcoDiesel was rated at 240hp and 420lb ft of torque, the power number has been bumped to 260hp and 442lb ft of torque in the new JL Wrangler. We have heard rumours that there is still more power and torque to get out of the EcoDiesel and it really just depends on how far Ram wants to push it. We do believe that the numbers will at least match the JL Wranglers numbers, but expect Ram to try and top the competition in HP, Torque and MPG. Ford has rated their V6 Powerstroke at 250hp and 440lb ft of torque while GM has not released any power numbers for their new inline 6 diesel.

We expect the 2019 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel to go into production in the summer of 2019.

Stay tuned to 5thGenRams for all the latest on the 2019 Ram 1500 as well as the upcoming HD's, Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer

Not a diesel fan but you tell a compelling argument for this "Mule" ! Another whole year+ just for 10 more hp ?
oh & "stay tuned" . . . still thinking about the forthcoming Wrangler Truck as a competitor to RAM DT or more as for Mid-sized Chevy's & Toyota's . . . as another Thread !?

I had a '17 Laramie Ecodiesel and it literally probably was the worst car I ever owned. Would never own another in a cold weather environment like Wisconsin. Car was sluggish, not responsive, slow (V6), and took forever to warm up. Also, the emissions standards are horrible which makes the car constantly throw check engine lights. Filled Lemon Law and Chrysler had to take it back. It was serviced 4 times for the same issue starting at 350miles and as of 1900 miles still has the same "Low Temperature Exhaust" issue. Chrysler released the ecodiesel in 17 and had to hold production for awhile after releasing tons of them due to their "fake" emissions standards. Also, the car gets awful MPG in cold environments too. Don't forget also you have to fill the car up with DEF fluid too on top of what you pay for the diesel too. Remote start never works either when he check engine is on.
