I don’t shop for groceries. That’s my wife’s job. That’s why she drives an SUV and I don’t.😆

My truck does truck things like pull my boat and haul dead deer. Occasionally hauls building supplies for remodeling projects. Not at all afraid to take it off road either. It’s treated like a truck should be.

Find it interesting how others get upset on how I use my own stuff.

If you have a computer, do you use it to surf the web or write programs?
If you're not using it for programing then you are just a lowly "information getter". :ROFLMAO:

If you have a stove and not using it to make gourmet meals each night then you are a "fatty fast food eater". 😛

Not offensive at all. A half ton offers great flexibility. A couple times a year I tow so it is handy to have. Many times a year I haul tools as I am the maintenance volunteer at a local park. Nice to not have smelly, somewhat dirty gas two stroke tools in the interior or trunk of your car. I also can put horse manure in the back when I have to muck the stalls and haul it. Hoses out when I am done. And on less frequent occasions there is the odd purchase my wife wants that fits. And when I need to take a trip it is comfortable like a luxury car and it has a 550 mile plus highway range. So it is about flexibility. I think a 3/4 ton or 1 ton would be overkill unless you tow regularly but a half ton is really just a flexible truck that allows you to handle the various things that come up without having to go out and rent a vehicle.

As far as actual grocery duty, we don’t use it much for that as it is a challenge to fit it into the garage. Our kitchen is right off the garage so better to use my wife’s wagon and unload where you are less than a dozen footsteps from the kitchen.

This happens in every car forum. In my Corvette forum some try to shame the low mileage guys for not driving their cars more often. In Jeep forums you get shamed for not driving it off road. In the pickup world, you get shamed for not hauling and towing heavy stuff. I also have a 7 passenger suv, should I be shamed for not driving it around with 7 passengers all the time, lol.

As and example, this is a popular one in the Corvette forum, kind of funny.

This is kind of what I was getting at with this thread; saying "your truck is used as a grocery getter" is not the same as saying "WTF did you buy a truck for? You should buy an EV instead you terrible human". The first is a simple fact, the second is attempted shaming, they're not the same thing.

So context and intent of the usage "grocery getter" is kinda important.

Context of how it's used is very important. MOST of the time when someone uses the term to describe someone else's truck, it's meant in a derogatory manner. Change my mind

If I call myself a dumb *** or a close friend does, it is not an insult. If someone I don't know does this, it is an insult. The same goes for grocery getter. However, if you call my pickup a grocery getter, I don't care because I don't value your opinion. Now, understand this is my opinion, which you asked for, not an argument, and I am not meaning to start any argument or create a round of insults. I don't intend this to be an insult, just an opinion which was asked for.

There're reasons for driving our truck even if you're not hauling or towing.
The ones that come to me are:
- Sits higher for better visibility
- Higher ground clearance for snow or debris on the road
- Fun to drive
- Safer if it is involved in an accident
- Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it

Gee whiz I used to hold the flashlight for my dad when I was a kid. "Grocery getter" is nothing.
Besides that, I DO go get the groceries in it.

My green calculations and carbon footprint ARE however excellent.
They do suffer when I have to make 2 trips to get groceries.

Mine will be a “grocery getter.” 99% of the time it will be driving to work or running errands. But I’ll be able to do more re if I need to. Most of the work I did with my last truck was to help out friends when they needed it.

When I was selling my 04.5 2500 Cummins truck in 2020, I had a douchenozzle on (IIRC) FB Marketplace tell me with only 72K miles I wasn't using it like a truck should be used. Never mind that a truck rated to tow 13K was pulling 16K. He also tried to beat me up that it wasn't even a "Laramie" with leather seats and the price I was asking was ridiculous. The truck was nearly perfect and showed little wear though it did have a little clear coat rash on the roof. In the end, it seems he was not interested in buying, just busting my balls for not using it like a truck, etc. (so basically just being a jealous Troll). I got my full asking price of $22,500 when it sold a week later. Had I held out longer into Covid, I could have gotten another $10K.

Msynder1112, I'm just curious, why would you have gotten more for your truck during covid years?

I love 3rd gen Cummins! I’m always on the look for more. I would like another one that is a long bed…. might be a newer HD truck however.

I gave my son in law the gray one.

My grocery getter can’t handle the truth.

Let’s get real.

All these 1/2 tons are grocery getters. 3.92, 3.21, Hemi, Hurricane, don’t matter. Yes, they do haul and pull some weekend warrior stuff…

Some of us use them like they are HD trucks sometimes. I see it all the time on the road and on this forum.

Im fortunate and able to own a weekend warrior grocery getter that is nice to drive and own a HD truck.

For those that can’t own several trucks for different jobs ( that do HD stuff ), my opinion is that they should own just the HD truck and suck it up a little when they just need to drive around or get groceries.
