I just finished the easy install of the rear liners and Weathertech flaps. After removing the stock base liners I had a good look at the fenders over the wheels. The foam Ram uses and the joint construction looks just like my 2013 F150 and we all know what those do in New England. The good thing is Ram puts holes in the inner liner panel so if you do not have liners all that Salt can get in the seam between the outer bedside and inner liner. I am sure that there will never be any corrosion caused by it...LOL. Anyway, before you install your liners invest $10 in a can of fluid film. This is the only opportunity to get into those seams and it will live there forever fighting off any corrosion. Here are some before and after pics. The straw can get into the whole cavity at the holes and allow you to spray a good coating in there. Also a shot of it at each fender screw before tightening will protect in case of any chips during screw installation. So my big question. If I decide to order my ram, should I get this option..or go aftermarket.

From the factory its a $195 option. Thanks.

The parts to do this myself were $160 plus $10 for the FF including shipping. Ram does not do any Undercoating. I would tend to order without, do all the prep and rustproofing to make sure no future rust and install them once. I love to work on my own vehicles and this is about 30-40 mins per side and easy work with two sockets. Some folks do not want to tinker. You can remove the $195 liners to treat these seams though if you get them from Ram.

Hmm...im definately all about putting in the time and effort. But if its not something I can order for the newer rams, maybe factory installed is the way to go.

You can undercoat, I guess. I would recommend an oily product. Why I did FF is it’s easy, No mess, minimal overspray, it stays oily and under the liners there will be no stones thrown and I hope very little to no water splash. It should last a very long time. If you sprayed Rubberized undercoat in the holes you may solidify some of that area and possibly create a dam so moisture cannot escape if it does get In there. Even with liners, wetness and moisture can still get above the wheel well but much much less as the rear tire is not bathing it in salt water (and throwing into those holes in my pictures). The ford issue is the foam used to seal the outer quarter to wheel well Sits on top and becomes a sponge and the salt water just sits there and dribbles in between the two panels, especially with no liners. Many of the Fords did not have liners and they were a factory option like Ram and they do not have a front and rear closure Like Ram includes. If manufacturers would just close off the upper area over the wheel wells and have no holes, it probably would never rust as nothing could get there. I am sure there is a reason (new truck every 7 years?). Here are pictures of a southern imported rust free ‘13 F150 that was driven for 1 year in Maine without fender liners (my sons). We added liners, fluid filmed the heck out of it and pour 15’d the inside and outside (and added factory style flares). I never want to do this to my new RAM.

I just had mine oil coated yesterday. I think they got as much oil on the outside as they did under the truck....

Mine has the liners. I did mud flaps today and when removing the screws they were oily. Not sure it got into the spot you mention specifically but I still got stuff dripping from all over, especially the little black pieces at the bottom of the fender flares.

Cool. Fluid film? I am going to do mine this fall. I have not decided on FF, woolwax or NHundercoating (mineral oil based). Going to do my sons Warlock and the full F150 too.

Mine was done by NH Undercoating here in NH.
