Impressive Gas Mileage

Filled up with 89 no ethanol before a trip from Oshkosh WI to Eagle River WI last weekend. Reset mpg.
About 160 miles one way is my guess. Mostly 55 mph hwy, about 30 miles of 65. I pretty much went the speed limit. Some elevation change but nothing major. A few towns of 25 to 45 mph along the way. 24.0 mpg on the computer on the drive there. Down to 23.5 after two days driving around Eagle River. On the drive back it got up to 25.8 for the whole trip. Yes I was trying to maximize it to see how high it would go, especially on the way back, 25.8 mpg for the HEMI!

I just drove from Pa to Florida with my 2021 Limited,E torque, 6’4” box and 3.21s. 3 fill ups, 22, 21, and 21 mpg hand calculated With 87 octane. Most of this was I-95 averaging 75 to 80 mph. Very happy with these numbers.

3.21 e torque *5.7, cruise set at 80 though north east mountains. Hand calculations were within a few tenths of the DIC average

I get 21.2 non Hwy MPG in south Fl that is very flat. 3.6 with 3.55 axle

When I accelerate, I usually give about 1/2 throttle and get to my desired speed quickly, then set the cruise.
I find this gives me the best mpg.

Accelerating like a grandpa makes it worse because I’ll make 5 instant mpg for 30 seconds, rather than 3 mpg for 5 seconds on a quick accel
I’ve been doing the same thing lately and I feel like it helps out a bit for sure. Plus I get to feel that powa!!

Is that with a 5.7? That’s pretty darn impressive. I usually get about 17-19mpg going 80.

When not towing I get 30 to 32 mpg on interstate at 65 mph and between 24 and 29 driving around our mostly rural area. When towing the camper MPG drops to about 13. When towing the boat MPG is about 19-21, depending on speed. All numbers are better than any of my previous tow vehicles: 1985 Cherokee, 1994 Cherokee, 2003 4Runner, 2005 Durango, 2013 Xterra and 2019 Frontier. With the exception of the Durango, this truck rides better far better than any of these vehicles. Its also the best tow vehicle in this group. Oh, the worst tow vehicle: that 2003 4Runner with 4.7 litre v8 and junky 5 speed transmission.

I am interested to hear more about this. Do you flair into half throttle or do you go right after it from a stop? Do you have eTorque? I read something about eTorque assisting on initial roll out, so I am wondering the best way to maximize that effect. Have others also found that the half throttle method yields the best in town results?

As a refence point, i seem to be getting 12.5 MPG in town, and 14.5-15MPG highway ( but that is cruising around 75-80MPH)
Non etorque. I accelerate from a dead stop mildly aggressive (not enough to spin tires) then keep the throttle and let the trans shift around 3k to 4K rpm. Once I hit the desired speed, immediately set the cruise and let it shift to 8th gear. Sometimes mds kicks in, sometimes it doesn’t (depends on speed, road, wind, etc) this is in town, but obviously not applicable in bumper to bumper traffic.

this method yields high 18s mpg with 40% city 60% highway driving. everyone has different driving conditions.
On the weekends, I do a lot of idling so I usually drop down to the 16 to 17 mpg avg mpg range, and make that back to 18s during the week on my commute to and from work . I also have 3.21 gears which help

there was a thread discussing this awhile back. Not sure which one.

It's all in the foot and anticipating minor terrain changes. A V8 is going to have less play in fuel economy than a 4 cylinder, but I've never owned a vehicle I couldn't exceed EPA estimates on with the exception of highway MPG in my old Scion tC that I bought to throw miles on. If they had put a 6th gear in that manual transmission is would have been killer in the interstate.

I have a 2021 Rebel 5.7 E-torque, and was surprised by MPG on my recent towing trip. 2500 miles round-trip pulling Uhaul's largest enclosed trailer packed to the gills. While towing, got about 11mpg, but after dropping off at destination and then completing the return trip, total mpg was 15.6. Better than I was anticipating.

11 mpg is low for something that small.

I've gotten mileage that low when towing a loaded boxy cargo trailer. Not on my current diesel, but with gassers. Lower even, as low as 8 mpg. The things are less aerodynamic than flying a ceeeee-ment block

WOW! Not here. Its 70 most places, and people blow you off the road going 85. No good MPG in *ANY* Ram at that speed! Freeway = interstate?
You must be in Phoenix. Here the truck speed is 60, so I run that quite often and just relax. Retired and in no real hury.

It’s not about MPG it’s about SPG or smiles per gallon.
