Hurricane HO Oil Change Pricing Question

I brought my truck to the local dealer to have them look at my Blind Spot Monitoring which is flaky and goes out in the rain / car washes. While there I asked to get an oil change and the service advisor asked me to approve an estimate of $273, which I think is insane. He was telling me that because I had the High Output engine, it takes special oil and is more expensive. I looked online and mopar 0-40W oil looks like $11 per quart (on sale for $8) - so maybe $88 in oil at full price and with filter, materials must be under $100. I asked him why they were charging so much for that oil given the price on mopar.com and he did not have an answer. So I declined to get the oil changed now because I only have 2800 miles on it and will wait longer and also shop around. Question is what are others paying for a Hurricane HO oil change? I live in Dublin OH which is a fast growing area and I wonder if the dealer has it a little too good and can get away with that kind of pricing.

I'm curious too as my first one is coming up. It sounds like labor charges to me.

I've never seen such a crock. Definitely do not ever use this place for any maintenance at all. I had mine changed at a local shop for $89.00.

I change the oil on my Wrangler myself and it still costs me $40, so definitely more to have someone else do it in the Jeep. However, at 89.00...that beats me buying 0-w40 Pennzoil Platinum and the filter - which would run me around $100.

That’s just greed and grift! I just had mine changed at the dealer and it was $145.50. I feel that’s a bit high but the estimate you got is outrageous!

did you buy it or lease it? if lease i'm only doing the factory recommended changes.
i hate to say it but what about Walmart???? the change will go into carfax and maintain your warrantee.
 
I changed my oil myself on my Laramie twice so far. $273 is ridiculous and is similar to what my BMW dealer wants to charge for an oil change on my X7. I'm not willing to pay that so I do my own on all my cars.

But if you want to save a little money, you can buy your own oil and filter and take it to a quickie oil change place. I use to do this with my hemi truck because the filter would make a mess because it was hard to reach. They would charge me about $40 and use my oil and filter.

$55 for oil and filter doing it yourself, labor is free. It’s not that hard to do.

Dealerships are ripping people off. That’s no way to treat a customer. I avoid dealerships like the plague unless it’s for recalls or warranty work which I’m happy to say is extremely rare.
 
With over 50 years of changing my own oil I have a local mom and pop shop do mine now. Them buying oil and filter and labor was $125.00. And that's with Penzoil and Mopar filter.

They are charging you based on the price of the truck not the price of the work. The assumption is someone who buys an expensive vehicle doesn’t know enough or care about the price of service so they can over charge. It is not a good business practice but enough people must do it for them to think it is worthwhile.
 
0-40w isn’t “special” oil, they trying pull at fast one on you. Do your own change and keep the receipts or go elsewhere and have it done.

I'm about to get my first oil change on my Limited HO here in GA per oil monitor at 10% and 8500 miles, and they quoted me $110 which is well worth it to me!

Who is "they"? If it's a dealership it's a pretty good price. If it's an independent shop it's a little high.

That was on a HEMI, not a HO. That said what kind of oil were you using? Pennzoil 0-w40 Platinum, 8qts., is nearly $100 on its own. And that doesn't include the filter.
For the HEMI it makes sense since the oil is so much cheaper (around $45), than the 0-w40 in the HO. As I posted earlier, if you can get the oil change done on a HO for less than $95.00, you're getting a deal right now.

You’re right that’s my Hemi I was referring to for that price using PUP. Just looked up 0-W40 of the same oil buying in 5 qt jugs and 8 qts would be about $66 plus oil filter for the Hurricane. There are good oil deals out there, just need to look. I just pulled up an Amazon price quickly since I usually buy my oil there in packs of three 5 qt jugs. Cheapest way I have found to buy oil. Individual quarts get expensive quickly. 5 qt jugs are way more convenient too.
 
For those doing the HO oil change themselves, Napa often has Penn 0W-40 for sale for $7.49/quart, like right now. Pennzoil/Shell currently/frequently has a promotion for $30 gift card for 10 quarts of ultra pennzoil. 10 quarts gets you free shipping at Napa. So with a Purolator Boss filter I'm doing the oil change for around $50 in parts if my math is correct.
