Hurricane Gas mileage

3 times I don't give a rats about MPG:

Towing, Winter and first 5k miles.

Winter fuel + lots of idling / remote start renders MPG irrelevant.

Picked up my Big Horn 4x4 last week and just did my 1st fill up. Screen display is 18.0mpg, hand calculated 17.2mpg. Theres some unnecessary idle time in that, but most of my driving is highway @ 75-80mph with typical rushhour slowdown/heavy traffic. My 2019 5.7 averaged 15-15.5mpg screen display and was usually within 1.0 mpg from hand Calc.

Is anyone getting close to the epa rating of 19mpg city and 24 mpg highway. I have been close on the city at 17mpg but on the highway it drops to 15 mpg. This was a big deal to me and buying this new 2025 Ram. Also having some misfire issues but the dealership says they can’t duplicate and no fault codes.
All the 4X4 come with a 3.55 Rear end and that will use a little more Gasoline that a 2 Wheel Drive Ram 1500 that comes with a 3.21 Rear end. I have seen many window stickers that show many 1500 coming thru with a 3.92 rears and that they will use gas that a 3.21.

All the HO have a heavier duty rear axle with 3.92. My window sticker shows 15/17/21, and that takes the 3.92 into account.
I have just over 800 miles on the truck so far. Mostly back roads, sometimes in 4-Auto due to snow/ice, and very little highway. We still have winter blend too. I'm seeing between 12-13 mpg overall.

400+ horsepower and over 5000 pounds. anything over 18 mpg i would consider really good no matter what.
there's only so much energy in a drop of gasoline. making 400 hp a hemi or twin turbo will get similar gas mileage. my camaro ss with 420hp and pretty heavy also got about the same mpg's as my truck.

I have the standard output Hurricane Bighorn Crewcab with the 3.92 rear axle, 2,000 miles so far. Gas mileage tends to be poor, 13-14 mpg combined driving. The truck does better with highway driving around 19-20mpg. My Hemi would do 17mpg city 21 highway. The 3.92 is hard on gas so for those of you worried about gas, get a different axle ratio. Long idles in winter kill your gas mileage and this engine likes to idle for a solid 10 minutes (in the winter) before you can put it in drive.

I would average around 20mpg through the display, 19mpg hand calculated, every time I went to pick up my daughter from Midland. That was going anywhere from 75-82mph for 4 hours straight.

Driving city, it was around 15 hand calculated. I had a LoneStar 4x4 with 3.92 gears. When I changed over to the stock 22's, it dropped about 1mpg due to weight. They were noticeably heavier then the 20's. .

I have gotten right at 24 mpg with my 3.92 gears on a 475 mile trip. Computer said 25.5, hand calculated was 24. That is averaging 70-75 mph.

my 2020 bighorn got good highway 24.7 5.7 3.21's but i didn't run 80. i never run 80 i have a CDL and we like to give out tickets where i live. i found it has alot to do with driving habits. launch it and run the rpm's up and it will cost you, idle again big cost.
but did we really get full size 4x4 trucks with 3.91's and decent HP expecting to get good gas mileage????

Agree with what you said. But "good" is relative. almost 25 mpg on a 5.7 is pretty damn good, unless maybe you're on the downhill side of Wolf Creek Pass. I'm not even getting 13 yet on my 3.0 HO, and I'm not impressed. I don't idle or warm the truck up. I am very light on the skinny pedal, and doing whatever I can to get better mileage. I used to get close to 20 with my 3500 with the CTD and six speed manual, and I'm trying to baby this the same way. I know it's break in, and I know it's winter blend, but still....

Wow... I only saw 25 mpg in my wet dreams.

In the past I ran Laramies, 5.7, 4x2, 3.21, 40,000 mi/year seeing ~16 mpg hwy. Also seeing a lot of traffic court over 2 decades.

At my worst I got 15mpg, I'm getting between 16-17 right now and get 18+ in the summer fuel months. And that is with bigger tires, and constantly letting it remote start. Crazy how people are seeing such different results, maybe less let me feel the motor since I can't hear it :)

yea, the hemi wasn't bad, The best I got with my 2019 3.21 gears was 21-22 mpg highway.
