how often is everyone changing oil

Every car that I have operated as a daily driver has had an oil and filter change plus tire rotation every 3000 miles (5000 kms) regardless of age or oil type. My old collector cars have the oil changed every year regardless of use. I’ve never had an oil related engine problem…..touch wood. I did my first oil and filter on my ram Hemi at 2300 kms……next one will be at 5000 kms and then every 5000 after that. It’s a cheap price to pay for peace of mind…..

@SD Rebel
I did the two bags, but working around the skid plate and the larger filter, it was just a pain.

Engines are expensive, oil is not. Ive never done mine under 50% life on the meter. Usually 4-5k miles. Thats a lot of starts and road time if you really think about it. The car ECU doesn't know what type of oil you are using and will give the same results for dino/semi/fullsyn. Hell you could put wd-40 in the crankcase and the ECU would tell you 100% life! I have 70k on my hemi now, its had 15 oil changes. It burns no oil at all and only loses 3-4oz in the catch can between changes. Also I run a pacbrake filter relocation kit and a larger filter so it holds an extra half quart or so of oil.

I change mine when the life says 60 % left and that is 6000 klm up in Canada

I’m on my third Hemi and a combined 290,000 miles. I’ve always changed my oil according to the oil life monitor which is usually between 9,000-10,000 miles. Only exception was the first oil change after factory oil within the first 2000 miles. Over the last 12 years I’ve never been in the shop once for any engine related issues or even one single warranty claim period. Engines ran smooth and quiet as when new.

I don’t spend much time idling and mostly highway miles. If I was in extreme conditions or did any heavy towing obviously I would change more often.

This isn’t the 1970’s anymore. Oil quality is so much better than it was in the past. That’s obvious by some of the oil analysis I see here from others posting occasionally. If anybody wants to change oil more often who am I to judge. It’s your vehicle so do whatever makes you feel better. I prefer to spend my time and money on more exciting things than changing oil too often. I have yet to see any evidence that I could benefit by more frequent intervals.
