How many owners have had issues with their air suspension?

Hi everyone,

I have a question for all members who have a 1500 with factory air suspension:

Who all have had issues or failures?

I own a 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn with factory air suspension. I currently have no issues with the air suspension, but am trying to get an idea of system longevity. My truck is a 2019 with only 10,300 miles on it.

Since my truck has been a problem child since day one and the bumper to bumper Mopar extended warranty will end in 2026, I am thinking of trading the truck before an expensive air suspension issue happens that I get stuck paying the bill for.

Our 2020 Limited hasn't had any air suspension issues. But our mileage is low too, about 20k miles.

Here are my thoughts on this though...you have extremely low mileage on your 2019. If you're happy with the truck I wouldn't worry about the air suspension failing. It's easy enough to swap that out for coil springs if it happens. Even if you want to keep the air suspension it will cost a heck of a lot less to repair it than to buy a new truck. If you are ready to upgrade because you're tired of the truck or have no confidence in it, then by all means trade it in. But I wouldn't (and won't) trade it in just to avoid dealing with an air suspension issue. Plus, your non-etorque Hemi is something you can't even get anymore. My advice would be, if you're otherwise happy with the truck then keep it and deal with the air suspension if/when it happens.

Thanks for your thoughts. I am very untrusting of my truck. The dealer replaced $26,000 worth of parts over the first few years of ownership, that's just parts, not labor costs. I guess I just expect things to happen to it.

My truck literally looks showroom new, but the initial quality from the factory was abysmal. It's got the Hemi Tick as well. Sometimes that doesn't go away for 5 minutes after starting the engine. The dealer inspected the exhaust manifold and bolts. No problem there. I just wonder if it's got a lifter problem as well.

I ordered the Longhorn instead of the Limited because I wanted the light colored natural wood. I think the interior is best in class, but always wonder, what will break next. The radio and GPS went out in June.

If the answer were only that easy. I hate giving up what I wanted so bad. I got my dream truck, but it is somewhat of a lemon.

That's why I wanted to try and get other forum members experiences with the air suspension.

Sure, but it sounds like the issues with your truck are not just about air suspension. I don't expect many members to post about issues with air suspension on 5th gens. I've only seen a hand full of people post about having problems with it. Hopefully others will chime in with their opinions and experiences with it. Good luck with your decision.

My 2020 Limited has 198000+ miles on it.

Never a problem with Air Suspension. It's one of the systems I thought would surely fail relatively soon, but nothing so far (knock on wood)

I have a 2019 Limited off road 2nd owner it’s great when it’s working mine got the famous front end sag a couple months ago I just replaced it with Eibach stage 2R system with factory rear upper spring insulators just have to Alpha Obd to fix the lights

My 2019 started failing after almost 6years and 120k miles. The rear would be sagging down in the morning, and the compressor would run a lot at times. Tried finding the leak by spraying soapy water on every air fitting, but never could find the cause. I didn't want to replace the $1100 main valve body on a guess, and I need my truck for work, so I just installed an airdelete kit with bilsteins and reprogrammed the BCM with JScan.

That being said, I'd buy another truck with air suspension as it was very handy.

Not wanting to jinx my self... Working as advertised so far at 96 k miles.
Had some anomalies with the AS due to a poor ground connection, messing up the computers.

53K on my 2019 Ram 1500 Limited. Air suspension problems started earlier this year. The first problem was a "service air suspension" message that would come up on long highway trips occasionally, that would clear itself a few minutes later usually after going over a good bump. That was fixed when a left rear sensor was replaced. But now I have the sagging front, whooshing sound, constantly running compressor, etc. I've had it to the dealer twice, spent $1700 so far for diagnosis and "valve cleaning", and still have the problem. Now they are saying I have to replace both front bags.

I otherwise love the truck and the ride, and it is disappointing that the dealer mechanics seem to have no idea how this air system works. I am very tempted to just go to air delete to not go broke trying to fix what seems like a flawed system.

your truck is pretty much brand new. if i had a issue i would just do the air suspension delete that would be way cheaper than buying a new truck.

225k miles and only a couple of "ride height not allowed" issues that were cleared with a battery disconnect/reconnect. That was until I got rear-ended two weeks ago. Now it is erratic, and the compressor runs nonstop without any change in ride height (usually stuck at entry or aero). No disernable air leaks either. Compressor shuts of when the "air suspension system is cooling down" error pops up. I'm thinking a faulty valve or something similiar. Truck heading in for repair next week.

19 with 145k miles with no suspension issues to speak of beyond a couple errors for unachievable ride heght due to overloaded conditions.

I expected some issues after I dismantled the front shocks to upgrade to Bilsteins but it's been 25k miles since and everything is still functioning as it should.
