Hello Guys,

I am getting sometimes a gurgling or bubbling noise coming from my engine bay behind the dash when turning the engine off, it seems to last 3-5 seconds.

Is this normal?

Thanks
JC

Did you have the a/c on? Sounds like the a/c system equalizing pressure after compressor shutdown which is normal. Does it make the same noise without climate control being used?

Yes, I had the AC on and apparently only does it when shutting down the engine when the AC was on.

I have heard "air pressure" sounds in other cars when shutting down but never a burbling noise.

Zeronet Do you hear it in your truck too?

I guess we're talking different things. I get the noise regardless of whether I'm running ac or not

Hi James,

Are you thinking you'd like to get this inspected by your Ram dealer? Send me a direct message as I'd be happy to help with that process.

I've had 2 rams that did this if the overflow bottle for the radiator was really full. I sucked some out so it was only half full and the gurgling stopped on both trucks. Food for thought

I have the same issue. I have an appointment in December for the gurgle, squeaky front brakes and random rough idle cold starts. Only 6500 miles to date.

One of two things is happening.

You're severely overheated and likely really low on antifreeze
Your radiator cap has a bad spring

Wait until it's cold and then remove the cap and have a look at the coolant level in the radiator. if it's low, time to visit the dealer to have the leak fixed under warranty. Pressure cap can also be tested at the dealer, or any decent garage that has a cooling system pressure checker. Caps are cheap enough that it may not be worth the headache of making an appointment and waiting for the dealer to warranty it.

Got my truck back from the dealer.

Squeaky front brakes
  • They determined the brake pads are dirty/dusty and their recommendation is to clean them.
Gurgling
  • They could not replicate the issue. The service advisor said to keep an eye it. I showed him the video and he said he's never seen or heard of that happening before. I even had him feel the vibration/bubbling in the upper radiator hose when I first pulled into the service bay but again they "could not replicate the issue". Notes from the service tech state, "drove for 9 miles could not replicate issue". Of course he couldn't replicate it. I don't see/hear the issue for just driving 9 miles either. The gurgling is present to and from work which is 20 miles one way.
Random rough idle cold starts
  • Dealer applied a software update. It appears to have resolved the issue.

Silly question but how did you suck some of the antifreeze out of the coolant reservoir?
