Grinding noise during acceleration

I have a 2019 5.7 Bighorn with 13,000 miles. I recently started hearing a noise at the rear of the truck when accelerating from a stop. The weird thing is it only does it when accelerating while turning right or left. The sound is much louder and grinds more while towing my boat. This seems to be getting worse and I know it needs to go to the dealer but I wanted to ask here if anyone has experienced this issue. Thanks.

Do you have it in 4WD Auto by chance?

From your description, it sounds like an axle differential issue. That doesn't narrow it much, but major players would be spider gears, backlash out of spec, or an axle shaft bearing. If you're inclined to investigate before heading to the dealer, I'd start with popping the rear differential off and checking the gear oil for obvious signs of wear/damage (shiny particles or metal). After the visual, smell it for signs of overheat from lack of lubrication or excessive friction heat).

Do you have the limited slip differential? It could be an issue with the clutch pack? I had an F-250 with similar symptoms (but felt slipping as it happened). A new clutch pack in the LSD fixed the problem.

Yes I do. When I pull my boat I believe it is starting to slip. This could be the problem. The two local dealers here have horrible reviews so I plan to find somewhere else to take it.

The other thing if not the rear diff itself, is if you have a crew cab and thus the 2-piece driveshaft, is the carrier/mid-bearing on the driveshaft. These can make a grinding sound as they fail as well.

Update. Thanks for everyone’s help. I dropped it off at the dealer for the day and was told they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Couldn’t duplicate the problem. Frustrated, I drove to another dealer and traded it in on a 2500. Problem solved.

Dang im having a similar issue if not the same. For example if im going 55mph then will reduce speed to almost 0 (anything from 5 to 10mph). After re accelerating i hear a vibrating grinding sound under the truck. Like if it was being forced or so. Any solutions?
