Glossy/Matte 8.4 Uconnect faceplate

Does anybody know why some of the BigHorn models have the glossy finish Uconnect faceplate and some have the matte finish?

Is this feature part of a package?

I'm just guessing but the glossy is the Uconnect 4C and the non glossy is the 3C. I know it's not the same uconnect because of the icons...what I don't know is if that effects the trim too. That dull trim one doesn't have airplay or Android auto either

I've been in a 19 that has the 4C that had dull trim and there were 3 major differences:
1) no panoramic roof
2) no upgraded overhead buttons
3) didn't have upgraded audio system

I would think any trim that has the Nav as an option.

Do you know if other display specs are different, like whether the touchscreen is less responsive (resistive vs capacitive) or the resolution is lower? Is matte easier to read on a bright day, or worse? As a new guy to Ram I didn’t realize I would get a worse screen if I didn’t get NAV. Brochure says UConnect 4 vs 4C but they don’t describe any differences besides NAV...

This is what a 4 without Nav looks like below. The only difference is no nav and Sirius travel link. The rest of the specs should be the same. I'm thinking it's a 3C because the loaner truck a Laramie 18 I had a couple weeks ago had the same look (both screen and flat trim) and it did not have apple carplay nor Android auto. According to uconnect site the 18 has a 4C but I know this isn't correct because Android auto wasn't available till 19 on Rams

2018 Rams got the 4c unit with Android Auto and Apple carplay.

The 18 they loaned me didn't have it...maybe there were some inconsistency in 18 as well. The system in it matched what you would see in the 18 Durangos except the Durango had Android Auto

18 Durango are 4c as well. It should have had it, all the 8.4 systems in the 2018 Rams were the new 4C unit. Definitely odd if it didn't have it, unless it was an EcoDiesel, I've heard some 18 EcoDiesels might not have it.

The amount of info, details, specs, insider info, supplier info etc that I receive on a daily basis has made my head a giant vault of FCA information lol. I'm not even going to get into what I know that I can't talk about...

I have the 8.4 non nav and its glossy. I like it better then the plastic feeling screen.

I've searched up and down and found nothing so I'm reviving this old thread.

Any way to swap that bezel between models? Mine has a glossy one and I want a matte one. Looking at the back of the bezel when I had it out, it didn't appear that part was interchangeable or if it is I overlooked the clips.

Maybe I'll have to take the whole thing out again and look at it. If I can just remove it and paint it, that would be great.

Have you seen the matted one? It makes the screen look tiny in comparison.

That being said it should be fairly easy to modify, I would look up the videos that show the 8.4" to 12" screen conversions, will give you an idea on what to remove and can access the bezel. You can go to the dealership and see what can be purchased to change it over, or buy a used bezel/housing on Ebay. I may not be able to change just the bezel, you may also need the surround, but not sure.
