FYI - My lift and Tires.... Warranty Work and Some Rust

Visit fordraptorforum. You'll see that almost every new truck is delivered with rusty axles. You're probably not going to get anywhere with that. And most of those are $70-80K trucks.
I used to be an upfitter for trucks at the place I worked, installing beds, cranes, PTO/pumps etc on f450 though heavy class 8 trucks. The brand new off the trailer 450 and 550 Ford's would come in with rusty axles, even though they were sort of painted, and drive shafts with no paint on them at all. None. And they were steel shafts, not aluminum. It's just little details like that, that I believe should be dealt with at the factory level. Like you said, 70,000 dollar plus trucks, being sent out without paint on some stuff. That's a crock.

I guess we'll see what happens with the claim. I'll keep everyone posted. If they tell me to kick sand i'll just repair the spots myself and get professional undercoating applied. I went through the frame replacement due to corrosion on my Toyota, so i'm trying to learn from my mistakes this time around. Plus, I highly doubt Ram would replace an entire frame under warranty from corrosion like Toyota did.

Here are the angles of of my CV axles after my 3.5" lift. They look a little extreme to me. Definitely more than I anticipated. Thoughts?

Definitely look angled too much to me. I have the Mopar kit and it's not like that with the mopar control arms. Granted mine is only a 2" lift all around.

Yours is really like 5.5" up front and 3.5" in the back to make it level.

Thanks for the input AnthonyD. I'd be curious to see other trucks CV axle's with the same lift. I may just have to create a new thread to get some more attention to this question.

Put your truck on a frame lift and rotate the tires, be sure there is no odd sounds from the CV joints and that they feel very smooth as you rotate the tires.

I've never played with high lifts on trucks, but this is how we would test on my UTV with a big lift. I had to make some adjustments to not over extend the CV joints. There are limits to what you can safely do.

Remember the truck will squat a bit due to it's weight, but if the tires ever leave the ground (jump a hill, etc.) you want the CVs to not get damaged when the suspension totally unloads.

Get someone that knows more than me to help! :)

Well, a final determination of the rust has been made and they have declared it "normal". As a measure of good faith FCA has given me 9 free oil changes. I asked if an extended warranty or corrosion protection was an option and they denied me for that. Oil changes are better than nothing I guess.

The input flange on the driveshafts are milled steel, uncoated. No paint+weather+steel=surface rust. Itll be 100 years + before that part fails due to corrosion. 20 years+ if you live in a salty state

Definitely normal. I've seen that type of rust many times. Damn 9 free oil changes should be good for the next 50k-60k miles.

I just noticed your account name. 11B?? I was 11H in the 82nd, but they don't have those anymore haha.

I just don't understand why the parts that have rust aren't just painted and protected from the factory. It seem like it would be a no brainer.....Anyways, I was 11B with the 10th Mountain Division. I had to look up 11H hahaha, They got rid of that MOS before I was even enlisted. I've always wondered if anyone ever picked up on the 11B part of my name :)
