The United States of America is not a democracy - that's probably where people get confused. The voters don't directly elect the president. The president is elected by members of the electoral college.
And even at that, the candidates are put up by parties (not voters). The Democratic party will vote soon on who to put up as their candidate. The "voters" that chose Biden in the primaries did so only as party members - not as "rightful citizens of an official vote".
