fuel economy

MPG threads, for the most part, miss one simple point. Comparing one truck to another is useless banter. NO two trucks/cars, even when qonfigured identically, will EVER get the same MPG. And if they do, buy a lotery ticket. There are thousande or parts, all not identical, manufaactured in countries thad don't like us, all assembled on differant days of the week, and driven under vastly differant conditions, ie., differant weather, geografical locaations, under dfferand mood swings, and drivers at differand speeds. Any person that compares the data and expects truck "A" to be the same as trusk "B" to be even close, is insane. You got what you got. Deal with it, and be happy that it even starts in the morning. Did I mention tht these the parts and trucke are assymbled by people that hate us? If you want good MPG, get a Prius, or whatever elst yanks your noodle. Lets face it, some of us got good trucks, and some of us not so much.
Have a nice day, and be safe out there.

Mine shows locked all the time too and I can spin the front drive shaft by hand when it's parked in 2wd. Would you post what they flashed?
My Off Road Pages are working properly now. I don't know what changed maybe some update occurred on Uconnect since it prompted me about doing updates over wifi.
Last night I opened Off Road Pages and the transfer case displays "unlocked" and there isn't the lock icon.
In 4wd High or Low it displays the transfer case "locked" along with a lock icon when shifting into 2WD or 4WD Auto it displays "unlocked" without any icon.

same for me

Honestly, I didn't expect better mileage compared to the Hemi. Sure, less displacement, but more power and less Ci to make that power so...I'm running mine on 87 Shell mainly and getting 15 city with lots of traffic and 17-18 highway still. Just hit 4000 miles and ran SeaFoam cleaner dose in the tank.

I just did a couple of tanks mostly freeway with some city. Averaged 22 mpg. I was in stop and go at times, also running 75 or little more at times. I used Costco 91 octane. Truck is Laramie 2wd. Truck has just over 6K miles. I think 23-24 might be there if the tires are a hair in the high side of inflation, sticking to 70 or below. Maybe even 25 at a smooth and level 65 mph with no wind. The best 5.7 I ever had also had air suspension, which I think is good for about 1 mpg or so on the highway. The 2 E-torque trucks I had would not do that, even with air suspension.
This truck uses just a little more fuel than a Ridgeline I had, and it's far more comfortable. It's also quite a bit more responsive than any of the 5.7 I had. In sport mode, with 91 octane, it's a very responsive truck. Emphasis on VERY. If they build a single cab short bed GT with the HO engine, that would be a real screamer. In 4wd, it would be an incredible thing to feel accelerating.
If Ram can keep the quality up on these, no surprises, I think this turbo 6 will turn out to be a very good thing.

My truck showed locked transfer case all the time. last week I had it in for cold start running issues. they did a flash, that should not have changed anything on the center consol, but now mine does not show locked unless in 4WD, it showed locked all the time prior.
I think I discovered that in the dash it still shows locked all the time, but in the center console it shows locked/unlocked as it should.

This truck is really turning out to be the worst purchase I've ever made, and also my first Ram.

My local dealer updated my PCM software to the latest version and the off-road pages are now working properly for me. Hopefully, the update improves the MPG a bit.

The front drive shaft still spins in 2WD when driving slow, even though the OR pages now show it not "locked". The back tires will spin on loose ground in 2WD, so I know the front axle is not getting much (if any) power in 2WD. I've read that the BW 48-11 transfer case does not really "lock" because it uses a clutch, and the computer controls how much torque the front shaft receives. Based on my observations, it doesn't look like a "locked" transfer case is causing a lower MPG on my truck. My 14-15 MPG is probably coming from 33.5" tires, added weight, and no flat roads where I drive.

I added 37" tires and installed 4.88 gearing on my Rubicon. it still does better than this truck with 33's and 3.92 gears.

Best I've seen is 19.7 highway mileage. I'll take it. Far better than my Dad's 1993 Dodge Dakota Sport 2wd 3.9L V-6.
